Hi,
for the past 2 weeks, I've been concerned with my 5 tigers. They're more than a year old (not adult at all, then). Here are the symptoms so far :
* no activity (even after a bath, only 2 of them appear active for a few minutes, and go back to their lethargy). * they're not sealed. Some of them are really retracted, but they do not seal themselves as they've done occasionally. * they produce yellowish threads. * they do not eat, at all (no food, and I've tried everything they'd eaten so far, no cuttlefish). * they are retracted, but they keep their bodies partially out of the shell during the day, and the night, as if couched, lying where they are. * one of them (smallest, and more retracted) is loosing its body color (the darkish pigments remain on whatever it lies on, and its body goes white on these parts).
I am afraid they might be dying, but can't figure out why. I've tried lowering the temp, and the opposite, setting the humidity levels higher and lower, giving them whatever food they ate, bathing them... I'm running out of options, and getting really worried !
Anyone faced that before or has an idea ?
Thanks a lot for your help, Laurent

the white beggining to show on the bodies means they are dehydrating this is the problem i have with the ones that i rescue from the markets , you possibly need to sit them in a shallow dish of water in the tank and leave them there , have you checked there are no mites , they are very sensitive to mites , if there are you will need to treat the tank with hypoasis , is the substrate damp enough , these are the only things i can think of that may be wrong , i hope they improve soon

Hi Karen,
and thank you for your answer. I've already put them in their swimming pool with no result for 1 day. After that, I felt if one or more of them had a disease, water might help propagate it to the others. I'll dampen the substrate even more in any case.
I change the substrate every 2 months and last time was 4 weeks ago. I use coir that has spent 2 hour in the oven set at 220°C. That should take care of mites (haven't seen any, though).
Unfortunately, I've just checked them, and the one loosing its color just passed away ! I am so sad and feel like I've done something wrong... and that I have let you down, the fellow was one you sent me last year !
I'll keep you posted. Laurent

awe im so sorry laurent , tigers are very sensitive even captive bred ones, so it may be nothing to do with what you are doing at all as it sounds like you did all the right things , infections can happen through no fault of our own sometimes , let us know how the others are getting on, they may yet recover , good luck karen

I'm sorry, that's very sad. sometimes snails stop eating, stop being active and retract more and more until they die, and there's not much you can do.

Hi, One passed away yesterday (that's 2 casualties so far). One other seems to be fading away pretty fast, and 2 seem not so well, but bot so good either. They remain partly out of their shell all day and night (I've seen acouple of antenas when watering them but no more) and still refuse to eat. I am pretty convinced they're going down the same road ( I'd want them to make it, but my wife said they may be in pain and the right thing to do could be to ease that. At this point I think one of them qualifies, but I remain unsure for the two others. Any suggestions ? That would leave me with no Tiger left, and I am really a/ annoyed, b/sad, c/ Helpless. LAurent

Oddly enough one of mine looked unwell yesterday, and has now passed away, and two others are looking unwell. It didn't go hard, but mushy, poor snail. I'm a bit worried too, perhaps I'm being over-cautious, perhaps the others will be fine...... One of my uwell Tigers has so far been the strongest, fastest-growing one....perhaps he'll be ok? I think all I can do is seperate them from the rest, set up another tank in a different room, but I really don't know what to do otherwise, or to suggest to you.
Hopefully it will not spread to other species but it may be best to place your Tigers in a different room too if you can?
Good luck, I hope your remaining Tigers have the strength to over-come this. It's not your fault. It's horrible when there's nothing you can do to help them.

Hi,
the one I supposed to be dying is alive, but really not well. Its body is partially out of the shell, and it shows no activity whatsoever. The 2 others are a puzzle to me. They appear a bit more active (they move a little when I spray them) but still refuse to eat. As a matter of fact, They even get away from the food whenever confronted with it !
I'm keeping them separated, and I do not mix species in the same tank.... so far Only the Tigers seem afected by that.
Thank you all for your help, support and ideas. I'll keep you posted !

Laurent, I really hope your's pull through this. It's so worrying when they refuse to eat. I always think that if only they would eat they would find the strength to overcome what ever it is. Sometimes they do live, so really hope so. Perhaps you may be able to tempt them with sweet potato? It's rish in nutrients and a good hearty meal for them if they will take any of it....
Please keep us updated. x
Two of mine died today! But the others seem fine. I'm not trying to barge in on your thread, but it just seems like the right place to write about it. If I find anything that helps mine I'll be sure to let you know!
Good luck

Hi, I'm so sorry for your snails, Aliensnail ! do not worry about writing about it here, the topic seems to be the right one... and I don't own it A third one passed away this morning. The other two are just about the same. What worries me a bit is that the third one wasn't retracted (but still out of its shell, I'm not sure I'm being clear here). It showed signs of not being well as the first two, but not retraction. As the other two aren't either I was tempted to believe they were safer, even if not eating or not burrowing (has anyone seen Tigers not burrowing for 2 weeks ?) but I am really not sure. Another point of worry is that they are going to stay in the care of a friend of mine (breeder as well) because my mom who is currently staying 900 km from us has a stroke. We're going to see her and leave in a few hours. I'd rather have my mom well, of course... I'll keep you posted anyway, and hope I won't be back having lost all my Tigers. Laurent

Oh no what a traumatic time! I hope it's not a major stroke. Some people have a good degree of recovery after a stroke, I hope this is the case for your Mother. Aw...
All the best - Ness x

For the last few days BigBoo (my adult Tiger from Buse) has been inactive. He's finally up and about now but is turning his nose up at the food. Doesn't want avacado or even his favourite tomato. i hope it's just a co-incidence. One other is also inactive and off it's food, which now just leaves one active feading Tiger.
