No same substrate since i got the snail. would also like to add when he is coming out he makes a popping sound what is this? The popping may be discomfort, or possibly a build up of liquid while being retracted. Does this mean he could have good tank conditions but be ill? If so how can i help him get better?

If your answers to our various questions about his living conditions don't sound alarming to us and he keeps on deep retracting and not eating, the snail could indeed be ill. White jade could have genetic problems from inbreeding (which is why I asked where he's from) in which case there's not much that can be done. In the meantime, let's hope it's not that. I thought of more questions that aren't bad gene related:
- Have you observed any small bugs on the snail? Especially round, fast moving ones? - What exactly is the substrate he's on, apart from sphagnum moss?
I hope it'll turn out there's something new you can do.

His substrate is made from "komodo tropical terrain block". its this set here: www.amazon.co.uk/Komodo-Basic-Giant-African-Snail/dp/B006LO211U/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1431293490&sr=8-2&keywords=lands+snail

Ok, that's probably not problematic either then. The soil's wetness is good if you take a handful, squish it in your fist, and almost no water comes out (one or two drops maybe).
All I can think of right now is to give him a wider variety of food from Zorst's list, all food always obsessively washed, and try to observe if he poops (at all/normally/weird). Also see if there's very thin fragile new shell growth, as that would indicate he's growing, which would be a good sign.
Fingers & tentacles crossed it's not a bad gene and he perks up.

It appears he has moved since i last saw him. He is stuck upside down on his plant pot and therefore does not look deeply retracted, It looks like he has eaten a few bites of a piece of sweetcorn hopefully he will return to normal now.

How's the snail doing?

Its not looking good, he has retracted even deeper into his shell and no longer comes out when prompted. I think you could be right about possible genetic problems as from the beginning of acquiring him he didn't eat much. I got a new snail a couple of days ago (Archachatina Puylaerti Albino baby) and noticed as soon as I got this snail he began eating whereas with Sheldon (name of the ill snail) would just hide maybe eat a few bites and go back to sleep.

Awww so sorry it's not good news.....some little snails just seem to struggle with change and the journey they take to get to us

Sorry I'm replying sluggishly... Yeah, healthy young snails should be snailing around exploring the tank at some part of the day (most likely the night, but depending on the individual it could be in daylight too) and take a sweet long time eating, not just taste a bit of food and then sleep. Maybe you should talk to the snail's seller again about this. :/
