I have 2 pantheras and would like a dit of info. I know they rasp on other smail shells so I have the 2 babies in another tank. Will they rasp on each other, as at the moment they aren't. How long do they take to be adult as they are growing much faster than any other species I have had. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I think it'd be weird if snails rasped at their own species for food if there's enough protein in the tank, but it might be just me.

That's what I thought, my son's friend has snails and she mentioned it so just wanted to see what you guys thought also there is no evidence of them rasping on each other.

Sometimes snails appear to nibble on others but the one being nibbled will look distressed if it hurts. My fulica eat something off of each others' skins, but everybody always keeps their calm during it, so they're not actually eating each other.

Is it a form of grooming Etana?

Been to get more snailies from the girl I got the panthera from. She said hers were laying eggs around 6 months old. Mine get plenty of calcium, cuttle fish bone and I also grate it onto their food so they get plenty. Possibly my son's friend has had problems because there isn't enough calcium in their diet. Well I am not going to worry about it any more as they seem fine and growing nicely.

Is it a form of grooming Etana? Hugs Jo xx I don't know. I posted about it on another snail forum and it was thought that there's something on the skin that the other snail wants, and it's not the other snail's flesh that's wanted, as nobody ever seems to get hurt at all. My big Mom Halonen sometimes has up to 4 babies rasping at her skin and she just pats them with her eye stalks, when I've definitely seen her discipline them (by sitting on them, or with tiniest babies, by holding them in her mouth) when they've hurt her before.

Thank you for that hun, I did see the other post. I would love to see the babies rasping their mum and she patting them with her eye stalks. Ha ha a strict snailie mum, I love it.

Well the babies do need to learn that trying to enter big snails' breathing holes is a true no no! It is good to see her truly be a mommy, looking after them and teaching some things. Baby snails don't need nursing, but it's certainly no harm letting them be with Mom if the tank is not built so that they may not be able to find food. She is huge but I've never seen her crush a baby snail. Sometimes she appears very tired and hides in the cave I made for her out of a feta cheese can. She fits in it so well, no one else can go in there if she decides so. Yesterday she sat in it resting ALL day. I guess it's not always easy being a Mom of dozens.

I recon she has the right idea to go n hide lol. But yeah its good when the older snails teach the younger ones.
The babies here get released into the big tank at about a month old, normally by this time they are big enough to be safe. Marrow for all his Bulldozer nature is great with his fan club of young snails and he's very fair with them but keeps them in place.

Yeah and I'm glad I made it for her so she can have her rest. As I told you she can't fit into normal hamster houses (which I do use as well) and behind the root pieces the other snails can harass her, but the feta cheese can is so perfect for her. Back on topic - Snailcrazy, how fast would you say the panthera grow?
