Suddenly I can't find his pulse. I guess his heart couldn't take any more.
I just have a hard time believing this as I just.... looked at pics of him eating that spirulina with Tauno. Just yesterday he snailed around the tank after Maija beat his sell really hard with her eye, waking him up from another deeply retracted position. Now he's just as deep but his heart just is not beating.
I really thought he was getting better, with how he even worked on his shell, had a completely normal sleeping position for a while, etc.
Fly high sweet Putkonen. You will be remembered.

....WHAT IS THIS, there he is snailing now. I returned him to the big tank so the others could understand he was gone, and..... hours later I go check the tank and he is awake and Tauno is pushing his face into the glass.
There was no pulse! I looked at his stopped heart for minutes! A half an hour!!!!!!!!
I don't understand, but I'm going to try to feed him something.

He did eat too. I don't understand how it is at all possible, but I'm crying happy tears that he is back. Though I expect him to go for real soon... But Tauno is looking after him right now, giving pats and holding his foot. I am letting him back into the big tank to be with his best friends, however little or long it will last.

Now Putkonen is snailing around the big tank, giving and receiving hugs and kisses. He might be saying goodbye or it might be joy of meeting again. I think there's a high chance he'll be gone by morning. He's gotten stuck in a few group hugs, I helped him out so he could go on his little snaily journey.
I'll be posting more tomorrow.

I've seen snails do that before, though usually to their 1st favourite snail or two.
Putkonen is still here with me. He was sleeping almost normally, woke up from my touch in seconds, and is now greedily rasping sweet potato. I can't stop thinking of his heart sitting still yesterday in front of my flashlight. What re-started it?! I really don't know how this is possible, but it looks like the other snails knew how to help him.
I still find it so ironic that his previous owner thought he was boring. Then again snails shouldn't be alone.

I'm really hoping that all go's well with Putkonen, and that he continues to thrive and be active , the eating sounds a really good thing,so def figures crossed. Perhaps putting him back in the big tank will give him the boost he really needs because the others are constantly active around him. Keep us posted please Etana.

Thanks Zorst. He sure gets a lot of attention now. The warmer tank he was in has Mauno, Maija and Kalie who are very friendly sweethearts but they sleep a lot and aren't quite as playful as a group as the fulica lot are. Putkonen is climbing up a wall now, with a little snail who looks suspiciously like Tauno attached to his shell. I might move him to food before I go to bed.

You can see the heart move when you position a non-heating lamp against the shell exactly right. I should make a video, it's a fascinating thing.

Putkonen is still here! He eats a bit, poops a bit, retracts quite a bit for sleep still, and has someone with him at all times. They pat him a LOT. This morning I thought he had passed at night and the others were eating him (normal with snails) but they were reaching into his shell just to wake him up, and soon he was awake again.
It's very interesting and I'm sure he'd have given up without the support from the other snails.

Putkonen didn't move yesterday at all, except little reactions to me poking him. In the evening I took him and Tauno aside and watched what happened. Tauno grabbed Putkonen's shell, rocked it, and did a series of eye and feeler pats - and Putkonen came out.
He ate a tiny little bit. I do expect him to go over to snaily heaven at any moment now but I got some very moving photos that I will be posting.
