If anybody knows of or is going to any sort of reptile/bug/animal show or fayre feel free to post it here... would love to know what's going on event wise as there doesn't seem to be much of an outgoing exotic pet community in the U.K. ... or at least, not by googles standards anyway!! I mean, there is obviously a pretty large community... we're all in it, but there never seems to be much uk based information about events etc.
Also, will anyone here be going to the midlands entomological fayre next week?!

When I lived in the Midlands I used to go to a lot of these Kippen love and I do miss them. I would like to know when they are around too even if I have to travel. I am not sure where our nearest venue would be but it certainly wouldn't be here in Cornwall.

Thank you Kippen love, I would appreciate it. Cornwall is beautiful but it has its drawbacks. Yes it has gone quiet lately, I am always posting to find out if everyone is OK. I hope that everyone is just busy.

Not having family I sometimes forget how busy christmas can be for most people even though there were times in my past when I have been hectic at this time of year too. I am just enjoying the build up to Christmas but know how stressful it can be for many. Hopefully things will pick up soon love.

Good luck with your exam Etana and I hope that you have a great christmas break. That also extebnds to every onehere and Jo even if you dont have many human family to visit your snailies will have a great day with you. I also will be thinking of you all.
I'm getting on line a bit now and then but it'll be the new year before I can afored a new laptop as this old temremental PC will only connect to the internt on days with clear weather, which this time of year are'nt so many.
Anyway have a great christmas break everyone.

Wow!! The show was great today!! Managed to get some black beauty stick insects which I've been wanting for years!! I also also picked up a rescue snaily... unwanted pet!! Only, I don't know what species he is as previous owners only knew him as a giant snail!! Was wondering if anybody knew some tricks to ID him as photo too big to upload... and if there are any special requirements / full grown size as he is my first non-garden snail!!! I've decided to name him Barney anyway!!!

I bet that cannot come fast enough for you Etana love and I will be thinking of you. Thank you Zorst darling for the Christmas wishes which are duly returned. I am glad that my snailies are with me for christmas, I just wish I could think of a special treat for them. They all turned their nose up at asparagus would you believe lol?

Thanks Zorst and Jo! Hmm...Kippen! if the snail was unwanted and not ID'd, he's likely A. fulica as those are the most commonly sold in pet stores, and for pretty cheap too. If he is fulica and your house is well over 21 Celsius, he doesn't absolutely require a heat mat, but if he's anything but fulica and/or your house is not very warm, he needs extra heating (heat mat attached to the SIDE of the tank, not bottom!!!). Any giant snail will love a shallow water dish to sit in. Anyhow, check his columella. Is it white or any other striking colour? That'll be a good start. If it's not white you can be sure he's not fulica! Here's a snail with a lovely bright orange columella, so you know what you're looking for:

Thanks for the advice!! Ye it's white!! Been looking online as well and looks similar to A. Fulicia so pretty sure that's him!! Our house is around 21/22 but figured he'd need to be bit warmer so put him on shelf near hot water pipe which stays around 24 even when cold out!!! (Don't worry it's safe)!! Will pick him up a heat mat though cause need to get him a bigger tank!! Has been living in a small critter keeper tub so need to fix that!!! ... at least he's not living under water anymore!!

Gotta grab some hides and a thermometer too!! He needs some serious upgrading!!! Have to transform 3litre tub with 1cm of soil and 4cm of water, with no hides or heat or calcium and a staple diet of cabbage and cucumber into a suitable snail heven!! Challenge accepted!! Little Barney will soon be living the quality of life every animal deserves!! It was honestly so cute when I emptied his tank of water and filled it with deep fresh soil and a pile of sphagnum moss as a temporary hide he buried himself in it, stuck his head out and wiggled his eye stalks at me!! I'm just over the moon to finally have a snail that I didn't acquire from the garden!!!... and apparently a millipede too as I also found one in his tank... red legged looks like, it's only young but really wasn't prepared for that!!!
