This has probably been covered elsewhere but I've got some yellow shelled eggs in one of my snail tanks. The tank has 2 tiger snails, two albino margies and two albino fulica ( sorry not using proper titles - but I've only everknown them this way)
They are larger than normal fulica eggs - so what do you think they are? And more importantly - how can I make sure they hatch?
Cheers

Margie eggs are about 2cm long and they rarely lay more than ten or twelve. Tiger eggs are usually slightly bigger than fulica eggs but it seems to vary. All three produce yellow shelled eggs sometimes How big/numerous are your eggs?

With regards hatching, I've found through trial and error (and I've lost several clutches in the process) that it's best to leave the eggs alone where they are to hatch. Moving them, even gently, can greatly reduce the hatch rate (apart from fulica). I have worried about the eggs being disturbed by the snails, especially margies who like to buldoze everything, but I've persoanlly found that the margies tend to leave nest-sites alone. If you're worried you could try putting a very heavy bowl over the nest and weight it down to ensure it doesn't budge...... Hopefully they're Tiger eggs, it doesn't sound like Marginata eggs (you can't mistake them when they lay them - they're huge!)

Well fingers crossed - it's not the other snails that will be a risk. It's the very inquisitive and excited children

How big are the margies? You don't say what varient - my suturalis sometimes produce small eggs, 1.5cm. If they're small margies, their eggs may be smaller. I've not heard of tigers producing eggs that big or laying so few, unless it was an odd one or two as a test batch.
I've got both sut eggs and tiger eggs at present. I just measured and the suts are about 1.5cm and the tigers are 6-8mm in length, and there are a least thirty, probably more.

Yay congrats on the Tiger eggs. The more these can be bred in captivity the better ;D Apparently they're getting less common in the wild due to people collecting them en-mass for food

Mystery solved - some have hatched - they are albino and look like margies - but I'll have to wait to confirm until they get a little bigger. They waited until the kids had broken up for the summer though!!!!

oh congrats, i've just had two margie eggs hatch too also albino i'm really chuffed, though one looks very imature and rather soft so i've put him in a tub alone for a while, hoping the other 6 eggs will also hatch shortly. Did you find they all hatched at the same time?

Have about 3 or 4 hatched at different times - going to leave the remaining eggs a little longer. However one hatchling seems stuck in the egg - has been for a couple of days - should I try to help it out or just leave it anad hope it breaks free eventually?

I'd be tempted to help him out but don't discard the egg as he will probably want to eat some of the shell.
Good luck with him. x

i agree with aliensnail help him out of the egg and leave it in with him because it gives them the nutrients and calcium they need to survive their first few days
