Ohhhh! He didn't eat on my hand, so I returned him into the tank with a large fresh piece of sweet potato and put him and two young snails on it. He felt the piece, snailed off, I wrote the previous post feeling really worried, and now I see he's eating the piece!!!!
He's rasping very slowly and carefully with his eyes nearly touching it haha. Now I only wonder if he's laid the eggs or not. Can't egg hunt right now though...but I will, and also try to see inside him again.
Mmmm That picture does look rather odd doesn't it!?.... Doesn't look like eggs.... But Yay he's eating, that's good news!! I wonder if he has laid the eggs..... Fingers crossed he keeps eating and builds his strength back up ...
good to hear he's eating do keep us updated! the eggs don't look "egg like" lets just hope it was something like that he was very close to laying which is why they looked odd.
You could always keep a weight diary to see if he's losing weight.
Thanks both, yeah, when I started this thread he definitely had a lot of small, white, round eggs inside him, just like any pregnant fulica does, but I just don't know what he had in there today and why all the slime. Anyhow, he ate a while (thank goodness!) and then went back to sleep.
I was worried that the eggs would hatch inside him and he'd have to give birth. That'd be problematic, I guess for both me and him. Well, there are no piles of little mini baby snails on the soil at least. Tomorrow I have the time to do egg hunt.
I'll keep you posted. I may have to start the weight diary too, thanks for the idea.
Today when quickly picking up poops, I found a few of those aforementioned little mini babies hidden in the soil near where Taavetti finally agreed to eat yesterday. I think he's given birth after all. There should have been more babies than the about 5 I found, so perhaps he's moved around with them coming out of him, and I must do a more throughout dig around (well, I was planning on one later today anyway).
Now he's sleeping in the darkest place in the entire tank, I can nearly see a "Do Not Disturb!" sign next to him, so I'll let him have his rest before I take a new look inside him.
Aww Bless him....so has given birth then! Maybe you'll find more later....he was really hanging on to them until the last minute wasn't he!... Hope he wakes up and eats again...he may take some time to recover. (Would love to see baby pics )
His insides still look weird, a different weird than yesterday. I need to get a good picture though.
He ate a lot today again and is interacting with the other snails so he seems to be doing okay. The mini babies snailed to hide but I have many baby pics to post anyway

Yippee so glad he's eaten again!! It certainly sounds like he's recovering.... Can't wait for baby pics!!

h how sweet, darling little babies. I bet the poor little chap is tired now LOL!! I am glad he is eating well again, it is always such a worry when a pet refuses to eat. I would love to see pics of the babies.
Well yesterday Taavetti rested a lot, and at some point woke up to try and suck the slime out of his breathing hole (there was lots!), I don't know if he got it all out but he had this super concentrated face doing it at least and he took his time. Then he fell asleep next to the heat mat. I didn't see him eat but at least he took care of himself.
The babies are fine, I installed photo editing software so soon there will be those pics! It's high time, the ones I intentionally let hatch in Feb are really big and handsome!!
Yes...though I took a closer look at him today and there's a LOT of mucus again, a 2mm thick string coming out of the lung cavity (I'm not 100% sure it's only coming from there, he's so mucus-y), I couldn't break it with my fingers. There are small wriggly worms on his body and near his breathing hole, not sure if they're after him or just randomly crawling on him when looking for poop. He's super glued to my hand right now so I'm typing slow.
There was also a mite on his shell, but it was tan, not snow white, and it seemed to avoid snail skin so I'm not very worried about that.
Also he opened his breathing hole super wide and there definitely was eggs inside...again? Still? What? Since snail eggs hatch at different paces, could he have just given birth to a few and left the rest inside? I'm coming close to the end of my understanding. The tiny babies in the tank could be Tauno's doing too, he acts like he's dropping test eggs but they hatch - usually there's only one though. It's too early to tell if they have Tauno's silver on them.
