Hello friends.
This is just a short note to let you know that I had to have Mr Darcy one of our guinea pigs put to sleep this afternoon. He hadn't been ill for long but being a prey animal they are very good at hiding their sicknesses but he was eating and behaving normally until today. It transpired that he had a tumour and the vet said it was the kindest thing to do as nothing would have saved him. We are both devastated but wanted to let you know.
Lots of love Jo xx

I'm really sorry to hear about Mr Darcy Jo, I can appreciate how it feels I had to put a Mare here down recently. Its a tough call even when its the best thing you can do for them.

Poor little thing guinea pigs are great little critters... i bred them for a short while, mainly long hairs! That was until my mum banned them!! I had to re home them all including my first and favorite... It saved me from having to go though what you have but it was still hard ... she went to a friend so I got to see her a few times... she lived about 8 years in the end which was incredibly long for a little piggy!!!! What was he like... your guinea?

Thank you my darlings for your kind words, I really appreciate it. I am sorry you had to get rid of yours Kippen love, that must have been really hard. I know how I would feel if someone told me I had to get rid of mine. Didn't she care how much this was hurting you? I love long haired guinea pigs, in fact I preferred long hair on any animal even men LOL! Mr Darcy came to us with Mrs Lacy about four years ago as the lady who had them was going to France and could not take them. She drove all the way from London to here and back the same day. She dropped her piggies off and cried bless her, had a drink and drove back to London again. We still have Mrs Lacy Jane and have put our other guinea pig Mr Merley (Merlin) Cuddle-Hugs in with her and so far they are getting on really well. Mr Darcy was a lovely big piggy and was tan in colour The two I have now are black and tan and I adore them. Thanks for asking hun.

Jo your animals have the absolute best names!!! Glad to hear she's got a new friend... so sad to see guineas on their own. Can't believe she drove all the way from London! She must have really loved them! I think with my mum it was more about the money... at the time I wasn't old enough to be earning a substantial amount and well guinea pigs aren't exactly a profitable business when you like to spoil them! So most of the essentials like food, veg and bedding was being paid for by her... and being a single mum working full time on minimum wage trying to raise three kids to do well in life she didn't have much more money to spare for 15 baby guineas!! I understood where she was coming from as it was reaching the point where either I ate or the piggies ate... i didn't want to keep them unless I could keep them well so I found good homes for them and that was that!!! I am earning my own money now and have been for a while, so as long as I can fund my own animals and they don't affect my school work my mum just pretends not to notice them... though I haven't got enough money to be funding guineas really even now as planning for vet bills now my dogs getting older!!! .... wow ... that was practically my life story!! Oops!!

... oh and your guineas sound gorgeous by the way Jo!! my first was also black and tan... she also had a bit of white... kind of like a tortoshell ( not sure how to spell it)! But the white was only around her little black nose which made her look rather strange!! ... do yours have crowns?! Just love the fact they're called crowns! Like the guineas are royal!!

Thank you Kippen sweetie, I like to think I chose cutey names. I think they are getting there as a cuple. There is still a bit of a territory thing and each are keeping to either side of the run but they were eating today together out of the same food bowl which is great.
Oh I see, I can understand where your mum is coming from then love and it sounds to me as if she is doing a great job bringing up three kiddies on very little money I know what it is like to worry about money over the past few years, never before in my life have I, I hasten to add and it is a rude awakening. I bet it is a lovely feeling being able to pay for your pets yourself now and not to rely on her so you can have a couple of little friends to love. Vet bills oh yes, I know all about those!! It is a license to print money isn't it?
Thank you again Kippen sweetie, Merley has a little crown or coronet too use the correct term and it is so pretty. It looks as if he has a little umbrella on his head and I am always saying to him "Whose wearing a pretty little hat then" and he looks at me as if I am stupid - no comments please LOL!!
Hugs JO xx
