MORE EGGIES only this time only 4 and much larger so I assume these are the Fulica eggs. They are like small white pebbles. I found them when doing my eggy hunt but no snail was besides or anywhere near them so I don't know who it was. Sidney, Hetty and Smedley my Fulicas have all eaten extremely well today so I am assuming it is Hetty. Everyone is asleep now except a couple of the albinos. It looks as if I am going to have to put more food in though.
So excited!!!

Very good that they're eating well again. So after all it probably was just a bit of the slowing down that snails do when a growth spurt is over.
If the eggs were really a LOT bigger it's possible they're Albino Margie test eggs! Fulica egg size varies a bit too though. But congrats anyway!
Reburying them is ok if you want to see if they'll hatch, though test eggs usually don't (except if it's my Tauno who only pretends to be testing) but keep in mind that even four little snailies who survive to adulthood means a lot of snail needing room to roam and food to eat. Margies grow bigger than fulica too.

Oh pooo!!! I have to say that they are a lot bigger love, that will teach me to jump to conclusions. I hear what you are saying but I have to keep at least one of them and I will leave the buried ones where they are. I really thought I had some Fulica eggs especially as mine have been eating like horses. I think they are test eggs but why do they lay such large ones? The others they have laid have been small.
Everyone does seem back to normal, eating and bathing and generally mooching about. If I have any worries in the future, I will try and remember what you have told me to do Etana love. Thanks again for everything. Feel a bit crest fallen, I was so excited.

Righty, well the fulica might very well be pregnant anyway, you might want to try peeking inside them if you have a good flashlight and they let you see. As for the egg size that's just the way Margies are, they lay their eggs very big, and the babies hatch looking very different than the ittybitty fulica babies do. Which reminds me, I still wonder what happened to the earlier clutch. Based on what you say, those were fulica eggs. I'm not sure I told you what to look for - the new hatchlings are the size of the eggs, very small compared to the adults. Still no sightings of tiny, translucent-shelled guys with ridiculous eyes? Anyhow I'm sure you'll have some grand-snails at some point. Again I'm so glad that things are well.

Thank you Etana love and I am afraid to say that there are no tiny snails anywhere, I keep looking and wish there were. The first clutch I put in the freezer as recommended as there were so many of them but none of the remaining ones have hatched. Oh dear, have I done something wrong?!! I will have to buy a torch/flashlight so I can have a look in their shells, it is something else I don't have at the moment. Reading between the lines I can't help feeling I should have had baby snails by now.

Well your snails' sisters and brothers (and Mom too) lay lots of infertile eggs for the tiny ones to eat. I really have no idea whether they are mixed in the clutch or the first or last eggs laid, but it's a possibility the ones remaining were that kind of eggs, and some adult noticed and ate them. I'm not entirely satisfied with that explanation though because I don't know the chances for that. Are you sure they couldn't have escaped the tank through gaps, as babies do not know better yet? Btw I don't really need those close-up photos anymore, it'd be delightful of course but I don't see a need to worry about your snailies' health anymore.

Oh I forgot. When you say "none of the remaining eggs have hatched" which eggs exactly are you talking about? Still fulica eggs in the tank? Hatching time varies from mere hours to some weeks, as fulica can decide to an extent when to lay (some even give birth).

I am talking about the ones originally laid Etana where I just left a few to hatch. We are going back a fair while here. But, wait for this, someone has laid some more today just by the food dish. There are twenty and they look the same as the first clutch I ever found only more transparent. I caught one of the teenagers sitting on them earlier so I moved him as I knew he couldn't be the daddy. I don't know what to do with them so I have left them alone.
No, I feel positive I would have noticed some tiny babies ETana as I am always looking in the tank. I think the remaining eggs must have been eaten and were possibly infertile eggs but there is no way of knowing when they lay a clutch, if they are all infertile or just some, as you say. Anyway, I am just going to concentrate on this clutch now although have no idea who they belong to or whether they are fertile or not. You don't know how much that means to me Etana, what a compliment. Everyone seems to be thriving and I am so glad you do not need to worry about my snailies' health anymore. I will send a photo from time to time especially if I manage to get some good ones. I did worry in case you thought I was a bad snaily mummy.

Ah, okay. Twenty is a pretty small clutch so that is a bit strange, could be test eggs too if they were on top of the soil. One of my snails miscarried once, he ate the eggs himself right afterwards. Let us know what happens. Good idea to concentrate on new eggs now. No you're not a bad snaily mummy! I was worried that I'd forgotten to say something or didn't stress something enough in the floods of emails before you got the snails from me, and with close up pics I could have checked some things. I'm looking forward to seeing some pics in the future, but I expect to see some well-grown and happy slimers.

I have just left them where they were Etana love as I don't know what else to do. I have checked for further eggs and there aren't any s far and everyone has had their shell checked and I am please to say that no one has any chipped shells and all looking very healthy. I will take some piccies son Etana but you are right, they have grown so much in the past few weeks. It is eggie day today, I scrambled two large eggs and put them in and I have see many people eating it including the tinies.
I am so pleased you don't think I am a bad mom and I want to thank you for being so patient with me and answering all my questions. I will take some piccies soon so you can see how they have grown.
