They're doing wonderfully,I just checked on them to give a slight mist and both babies were out, with their huge eye stalks and tiny foot! I didn't realise how adorable they would be. I'd post a photo but I cannot find my phone, put it down and it's vanished lol, but hopefully I'll get a photo up soon. X

Sorry about the photo quality, but here are the baby snails, Raphael and Gabriel. The egg that one of the babies was sat on hasn't been chewed, is it possible it might still hatch?

Aren't they just the cutest when they are that tiny? It is hard to believe that something that small can be so independent but they manage, bless them. Thanks for the lovely pics hun.

Yep babies are proper active now thanks! The third egg has hatched but there's no third baby, is it possible he may have escaped?

Not necessarily love, they are very good at hiding. I thought all mind had escaped but they hadn't, they were cleverly hidden, hitching rides on the bigger snailies for instance. Thanks for the baby update, it is always lovely to hear the snailies' progress from their humum.

O just thought of a somewhat silly question, but do the babies need protein?

Yes. They will grow big faster and be altogether stronger snails if they get their protein snacks. Offer it once, or max twice, a week (not more often!), if it runs out when they're in the middle of eating it you can add a bit more until they're full. Keep vegs aside it too so they can choose, and all should be fine.

I give my snailies three eggs once a week and it is usually on a Friday or Saturday. I cannot find any of my hatchlings again, I hope they are hiding.

Jo I just remembered something that might make you feel better. When I got my second tank for giant snails and moved Mauno and my Tiger snails in there, I moved some old coir with them to make the move easier for their tummies, and I accidentally moved a single fulica hatchling with the old coir. I didn't notice it until I saw the teeny tiny guy on the food at some point. I let him live there, not touching him at all except if he was really in the way of cleaning, which was rare as he was just a little baby. Sometimes I didn't see him for days, I'd think he was gone, then he'd re-appear at the food dish or on the wall, every time just a mm or so bigger than last time. I don't know what he did during the days in between but I know that if he ever came across Mauno, he was in good...uhh, tentacles, lol, as Mauno is so great with babies. He grew up and became a gorgeous snail. He is now living with my other fulica and I am ashamed to say I don't know which one he is anymore as he has identical siblings. Just saying that they are great at hiding, they have to be because they have so many enemies in the home jungle. They'll reappear again I'm sure.

Thank you so much for this Etana love, it has made me feel better. I was so careful when I did a partial substrate change the other day but I am worried in case I have thrown any away. As said before I kept half of the old coir, wrung it out and placed some new on top of it. I have seen one tiny baby so far and I am just hoping that the others are in there somewhere. I am still waiting for the torch so I can check for babies, I also wish I could go out ad do my own shopping!!
It does make you wonder what they do for days at a time, do they sleep and make a point of only coming out when they know you are not around? They are such strange little creatures and intelligent too. People who say animals like this are non entities couldn't be more wrong.
I am glad he grew up into a lovely snail and even though you don't know which one he is, you know he is in there and he managed to grow from a tiny baby into the beauty he is now.
Thank you so much for the reassurance darling, I really appreciate it and it has helped immensely.
Love Joxxx

Thank you hun. Why are men so bloody useless, I still don't have my torch?!!! I do so wish I could do my own shopping. As soon as I have this elusive torch Etana love everyone will be checked. I check every day anyway for damaged shells and I am happy to report that everyone is looking really good.

That's good, it indicates that you have a safe tank and are offering enough calcium in it. Looking forward to baby reports from both Jo and Picklepies!
