Hello ladies
I know I am being a pain but I have more eggies and I am not sure what to do with them.
The food plate was tilting today and I knew a snailie was underneath and I also had a hunch that some eggs would be with her. I was right. Eight white eggs that look like birds eggs and mum sitting with them. I gently removed her and put her on the food plate and she started eating straight away and she is fine I am glad to say. What do I do with the babies please? Do I leave them where they are, buried? She my go looking for them which is why I have left them there. The previous eggs I had of this type were infertile and these may be also.
Any help or advice would be more than welcome but mum is well fed and has had a long sleep. She is now just mooching around with her friends.
Many thanks Hugs JO xx

Ah, congrats, and I'm glad to hear the mom is doing well. As always, you have to carefully consider whether there's room for, or a realistic chance to rehome, that many new babies if they turn out to be fertile. If the answer is no, you have to freeze the eggs.

Thanks Etana love and I know you are right. I just have this feeling that they are not fertile, probably because the other ones which looked the same never hatched. How long does it take for them to hatch once the eggs have been laid please? Hugs Jo xx

Anything from immediate to some weeks, because mom can decide to keep them in to an extent.

Yeah I know, they can do so many things that humans can't, and they're supposed to be so simple.

No love, if there is one thing I have learned it is that snailies are far from simple. They are quite complex little creatures.
It is substrate squeeze and change half tomorrow. It is like a swimming pool in their home and Paul bless him is going to help me. I think I will give them all a little warm bath as well, just very gentle, I think they will like that. They have already had their egg this week so I may put some cucumber in there for a treat when we have all finished. I will let you know how it goes.

Sounds very nice, let us know of whatever funny little snaily moments that happen.

More news from your egg machines once again! If you had reptiles, fish or certain exotic mammals they'd have caviar all the time!

It went very well thanks Etana love, a lot of squeezing of the old stuff and then mixed in with the new. Snailies seem really happy but I am really shattered because it requires a standing for a long time and I cannot do that easily. A lot of them tried to go walkies, I put them all in a plastic box and some little ones tried to make a break for it but they are all settled down now and enjoying their night. There was a lot of kissing when they were out which was really sweet and a lot climbing all over each other. When I put them back most of them didn't go back into their shells but stayed out to say hello which was adorable. They all had a little warm shower too which I wish I could do it more often. It was like a day at the beauty parlour for them LOL!!

Aww sounds like your snails were very happy. If I take my snails out of the tank for a bigger clean, I usually give them thin slices of sweet potato on the wet plate I put them on. *Almost* nobody will want to run anywhere as they're so happy to just sit down and eat. Almost, lol - one or two snails will get bored and try. That's a shame that it's physically so hard on you though.

It's the standing I can't manage anymore Etana love but it was a labour of love and I enjoy anything I do for my snailies. I have started slicing their sweet potato as thinly as possible which is something else I do standing up. I should take it through to the sitting room and do it. I will remember that for next time and put food into the plastic box for them to munch on and of course it will be a distraction. I have started scattering their food more, cutting it up into small chunks and putting it in different places on the good plate. Is this a good idea or is it best to leave it in one lump please? Yes love, the only time I am not in any pain is when I am lying down.

With a crowded tank it's good to scatter the food around, so the snails have an easier time getting to it in case some of the slices get sat on or something. It's just more work for you to clean up later - though thin sweet potato slice leftovers hardly are a thing, lol. I'm very sorry it's so painful for you. I've been in chronic pain before, thankfully not now but it really takes a toll on you.

Thank you for that advice Etana love and I have been putting the food in different places on the plate. Things like apple and pear I leave in chunks, is this also best in thin slices please? Thank you for your kind words sweetie but I am pretty much stuck with this unfortunately.

Apple and pear are so soft, I don't see it necessary to slice them for healthy snails. Yeah I know, I hope there will be a change of course.
