My sweet Mauno has had trouble sleeping lately. Especially today he stayed up till 6pm, then finally fell asleep, but woke up at 9 to poop. He is not staying awake to eat or bathe, he just snails all around, pushes his face into the glass so it's all squished up, and makes many faces and gestures. Usually when a snail does that I'll take him out, bathe him and let him run around on my arms, and they will go to sleep after that. It didn't help Mauno, though.
There have been changes in living arrangements here, people moving out and in, new scents, new things to see, furniture being moved around including the snail tanks. Mauno is always the first to run over to meet and greet new snails, maybe I should have him meet my new house mates.

Oh bless him, I suffer with sleeplessness so I know how the little chap feels. Is he the only one or are others showing signs of the same thing? It is a shame he is on his own because if other snailies were up he would have someone to talk to. I hope he gets used to the newness and settles down very shortly. Letting him meet new housemates may be really good as he is a lovely socialable little snailie. I am sending lots of snoring vibes for little Mauno and lots of love too. Please keep me informed hunni.

As far as I can tell Mauno is the only one. Everyone else in his tank sleeps well, and the other tanks don't show any activity that wasn't there earlier, either.
He was pushing his face into the glass again today and was easy to pick up. He stuck to my hand really tightly and danced when I petted him, gave me tons of snaily kisses (gentle caresses with lips, no tongue lol) and let me touch his eye stalks without pulling them in. I held him until he stretched towards the tank and blew a single bubble (he did it twice, I didn't get it the first time round, daft human haha), again he was easy to put back into the tank despite being superglued to my hand earlier. Now he's at the back wall, his eyes very, very slowly going in. I hope he'll sleep a bit better today, it's already getting late for him at almost 1 pm.
I'll have him meet the new humans once the humans are ready lol, they'd never even seen big snails before let alone let big snails touch and examine their hands so I have to give them time as well, but at least I can promise that Mauno is a very good snail for a first experience.

Spoke too early - he did pull his eyes in, but then popped them back out and is now wandering around again.
My bf suspects he's afraid I'm going to disappear. After all I had to just spend time in a different town due to bad circumstances and I couldn't take my snails along, I just left them a lot of food. I hope it's not that, I hope Mauno just still is trying to make sense of all the changes.

I am glad everyone else is having a good night sleep love but it does sound to me as if he wants attention and lots of love. You probably already do this but maybe he wants a cuddle and some kisses before bedtime which will also reassure him that you are still there.
I know what you mean about the humans but I cannot understand anyone not falling in love with them but then, not everyone is like us. I hope they are ready soon and become as captivated as we are.
I think he just loves you whilst trying to adjust to the differences in his home. I hope the little love managed to get some sleep. Thanks for keeping us updated sweetie.

Mauno is sleeping better again now. Yesterday he'd tipped the bath over and was fast asleep under it, and I moved him when I was cleaning up and making him a new bath, but he was able to go back to sleep soon enough. Today he's slept almost normally, very close to the glass walls, occasionally pushing an eye out from between his wrinkles and pulling it back in when I put my face very close to the glass (aww, still spying on me a bit, is he). Right now he's waking up at a pretty normal time. I should travel a tiny bit over the weekend. I'm contemplating taking him along. Then again if things go to plan I'll only be away for one night. I'll decide on it on Saturday morning I guess.

I am glad he is able to sleep again love on a regular basis, it is no fun lying awake. I am pleased that he is getting his full 8 hours so to speak. People go through phases like this and I think animals do too. our kitty is the opposite, he is sleeping all the time at the moment but there is nothing wrong with him, I think they are just things which come and go. Bless him, the extended eye stalk was to make sure you weren't too far away bless him. Have you decided if you are taking him with you on your travels yet?

Well I was just packing, and he pushed his face into the glass. I went to see him, asked "What is it, Mauno? You coming along with me?" and he turned and patted the empty bath tub with an eye.
I made him the bath, he immediately went to sit in it. I think I'll leave him home to bathe and rest. I'll be back tomorrow already after all.

This is how Mauno gets my attention these days lol. He doesn't start climbing from that position, he just pushes and pushes his pretty face all flat against the glass till it looks like this or even wider. I guess he has tried many different ways to communicate, and this is the one that works (gets him things like cuddles and baths) because I can't ignore it, so now he does it more and more. Lol, I am a bit sorry it had to be something this silly for my lovely Mauno, but I'm a stupid human who doesn't notice snaily subtlety... He must be researching human training, and has made the following note: "Training humans to bring you stuff: It can be done, but you need to be particularly patient. You will also feel like an idiot."

Oh that is so sweet Etana love, he certainly has yu wrapped around his little eye stalks lol! I think he is asking for attention and he really loves his mum. Ha ha, I love it and probably very true. He probably also says "Humans are incredibly stupid and training them can take a long time, so sometimes being subtle doesn't work" lol!! Hugs Jo xx

Lol Mauno had flipped the bath over again, which also gets him attention... indeed he's come up with stuff I can't ignore lol! I had him meet one of my new house mates, and he patted her hand with his eye nicely and then asked to do it again after a few minutes (by stretching towards her again). Then he was happy to return home - except not before I'd filled the bath tub!

Now he managed to tip over a large decoration. That's dangerous for the Margie babies. Everyone was ok but I need to rethink the tank's interiors...

Daaawwww. I had to leave for a couple days again and I did my usual "leaving routine" of putting in lots of extra food, checking the calcium dishes, and washing the baths & filling them up. As I did that, both Mauno and Maija woke up. Well, Maija went to the bathroom and fell asleep mid-poop (don't we all), and Mauno watched me clean up and begin to pack. Then he actually beat on Maija's shell with his eyes until she woke up. She grumpily finished pooping, and went to wash the tip of her shell in the bath (weird girl, she is), but Mauno just sat there and watched me leave, patting on the glass, which broke my heart a little bit. I hope he is ok. I wonder what's the snaily "bye, see you" gesture.

I'm home again, Mauno was sleeping so that his head was in the direction of the door. I took a bit to take off my coat and stuff but when I got to the tank, Mauno had one eye out. I put my face near the glass and he looked at me for less than a second, then pulled the eye in, as if to say "good".

They are so good at tipping things up, ours just love to tip the paddling pool over once we have changed it. I always remember to check before going to bed that there is a decent level in other and if not, I top it up. Arrah, that is so sweet, Mauno pleased to see his mum home again.
