He lived with 4cm of water covering the tank bottom? What kind of ignorant land snail keeping is that? And only 3 liters of space? That's ok for a hatchling but certainly not for an adult. Poor Barney! I'm glad you adopted him! Start introducing new foods slowly, his system may be so used to the low-nutrient foods that he might become ill from too much good too soon.

Thanks I'll be sure to do that!! ... he's got to stay in the small tank for a while until I can get a bigger one. The guy I got him from said he told the kids it needed to be humid for him so they kept watering it, but there was no heat so it all just sat in the bottom... what happened to adult supervision!! .. and poor millipede as well having to live in the water!! Well at least there's only one way to go when you're at the bottom and that's up!!! ... plus once I've got him sorted I'll be tempted to get him a friend!!

What a gorgeous orange shell. I have to keep topping the water bowl up at night as someone naughty keeps having a splash around and the water goes everywhere. No one is admitting to it though LOL!! I adore Millipedes and have had quite a few in the past, they are dear little things.

Yes well done Kippen love, you have given a snaily an excellent home. I think he was thanking you too when he waved his little eye stalks at you. Imagine how happy he must be now.

Anyone here going to IHS Doncaster in November? I hope to be and was wondering if any others in the snailing community would... or would like to if you didn't know about it yet?

I would love to go hunni but it would be too much of a trek for me, I'm afraid. I am waiting for the next insect fair to come to Somerset as that is the furthest they are prepared to come down in the UK which is annoying.

It's so frustrating how few shows there are in the uk... guess the hobbys just not big enough here to justify any more 😐 Maybe one day! I'm quite lucky where I live, right in the midlands where most the shows run... only one hour away from Doncaster and half hour away from Newark so at least I can usually make it to these (although November will be my first Doncaster show)! And since taking a year out to do animal care at college I've met a bunch of people with connections in the word of exotics 😀

I entirely agree with you Kippen love, our nearest one would be in Somerset and that is quite a way. We truly are forgotten in Devon and Cornwall. When I lived in the Midlands they were all easy to get to because as you say, that is where most of them are. Please let me know how you get on with your connections and how good they prove to be. I feel so lonely as bug lover, there isn't even anyone to write to and chat with. Insect World is excellent but I would like a buggy friend so to speak.
