So the signs of spring are totally all around my snail tanks! My Cepaea snails have already woken up from hibernation, and they are making lots of true love attached to the tank ceiling. No shame at all there lol! Everyone who isn't full size is growth spurting. To my joy, this includes Gaius the big Tiger! Can't wait to see when he decides his shell is finally big enough. Also my Achatina balteata pair are back to the same old: Maija is frustrated and wants to woo Mauno, who seems to show more fear and worry than interest. Tonight she pulled him into the bath tub, and he ran to the most faraway corner in the tank to recover! Hopefully he'll eventually want to try again with Maija, as their first eggs last autumn never hatched. Maija, by the way, came up to the tank door to show off her bulge as Mauno ran to hide. Unfortunately I can't help!

Lol yes!
Poor, poor Maija though. When I woke up this morning she was attached to the tank door and followed my gestures with her face and eyes as I went to see her. In my drowsiness I petted her with a dry(!) finger, which she usually will express major dislike of. But this morning she got a gicantic bulge from it instead! Like last night except now a normally unpleasant touch initiated it!
Mauno really needs to start feeling the spring too and relieve Maija of that frustration.

Please keep us posted hunni, I hope to hear soon that he has been a good boy and she is a very happy girl again. Hugs Jo xx

Lol, Maija went to sleep on top of Mauno, let out water onto him, pooped all over him, and now remains sitting there though she is awake. He remains firmly in his shell, somehow I'm not very surprised this time. It seems some snails trust in open desperation as a wooing technique.

When I heard the birds singing this early morning, I was like "Ah, yes... spring is on its way!" Not very snail related, but it's such a welcome reminder.

It is a lovely sound isn't it love? I am afraid it is miserable here today. That is some courtship ritual Etana love, peeing and pooing all over someone LOL!!

Lol yes it's so charming, I bet Mauno is woo'd in no time! Or maybe not! We actually have a saying in Finland that pretty much means "getting pooped on", it's used when someone expresses displeasure over what you've done in a nasty way. How much I laugh over snails literally doing that to each other! Not sure it's entirely nasty though since poop is good for snails.

We have similar sayings here Etana love one of them is "Getting S..t on from a great height." To snailies it is probably the highest compliment like asking someone to marry you LOL!!

Someone's dropped an egg on top of Gaius! It's the size that Mauno and Maija make! At least someone's very ready there to try again, now let's hope our sweet but wary Mauno warms up quicker this year.

Lol I'm not sure that he got to know, another snail went to drop it off him.
I also discovered that Mauno has sealed in! Haha, Maija's spring fever is just too much I guess.

Haha Etana love, I wish we could seal ourselves in when things got too much. The equivalent of a snaily nervous breakdown I should think bless him LOL! I hope he is receiving visitors soon and comes out of his well, shell!

Lol yes I'm jealous, sounds so nice to just say bye to the world for some days and not even have to eat or in fact do anything at all. I hope he's ok though!
Meanwhile, Maija gets visibly frustrated on her own, with bulges and lots of energy.

Oh poor Miaja, I know how she feels though!! I hope he decides to be sociable again soon for her sake and for yours. He is probably perfectly fine and enjoying all the attention love, listening to discussions about himself and if is he OK or not. Little bugger lol! Yes, I think I would even be happy to give up eating for a couple of days if I could have complete peace and quite generally Hugs Jo xx
