I thought I'd do a quick post about my iredalei snailies They seem to like 22-26°C with average humidity of around 60-70% While they seemed okay with my communal tank they seem happier on their own tank together One is an albino and quite bred into the pet trade, and the other is the child on two wild snailies I've noticed the albino quite like burying while the wild one likes being higher up, though that could just be individual personalities They seem a bit more nocturnal than fulicas and retics, bit seem quite similar to care for otherwise How this might help some people, I know I found it difficult to find info, I'll update as they get older, but right now they've gained around 2cm in about 2 weeks which seems pretty good! X

Thanks for that sweetie and I am sure it will help many snaily mums in the future. Yours are doing so well. I have noticed that my albinos bury themselves whereas the Fulicas like to be up high. They are such complex and adorable little creatures.

I've just seen some tiny bulges! They're about 4/5 months old, so still a bit young, and 6cm long in shell length I assume they can breed, as it appears one is the wild form and the other the captive bred form, so I'll keep you all updated, very exciting! xx

Some Achatina snails get their first bulges at 5 months, so it's well possible. Just be aware that they won't lay eggs but instead push out babies!

Early developers lol! I have unfortunately just had to put some eggs in the freezer, I hate doing it but I know it must be done. Sorry Etana love, I am a bit thick, what do you mean push out babies instead of eggs? Fascinating.

They keep the eggs inside till the hatch, then babies emerge instead of eggs quite a cool trait! I do have to freeze the fulica eggs Jo, it just wouldn't be fair to hatch out hundreds that I can't find good homes for xx

Yeah as picklepies already said, the Iredalei actually give birth! The babies are pushed out from the egg canal in their head. Controlling the tank population is a bit more problematic though as you are dealing with living and breathing baby snails.

I've got quite a few people I interested in babies of any do arise, so the first clutch or so shouldn't be an issue, after that I have two ranks so they can be separated x

Ok! Best of luck with them. I once had a fulica who I swear gave birth (either that or he held eggs in up until the last possible moment), a very quirky and clever fellow, lol. He would sit behind things and I would find babies there. A good thing no one else has figured it out but are "old school" egg layers instead. Don't mean to derail the thread though - hey, any chance for pics? Did you get the kind with the gorgeous bright pink shell apex?

Just checked on the snailies this morning and saw the iredalei in the middle of mating! It's the first time I've seen snails 'in the act' lol It'll be interesting to see what type they produce, the red tipped type or albino x
