Welcome, I might edit and post more of the video at some point.
He is though! Indeed, it's Darius, my biggest Archachatina marginata. He's a lovely ivory colour with jet black eye spots and a long, heavy shell. For some reason I didn't want to say who it was when I didn't yet know if he'd just die on me in a few hours or something.

I hope you don't mind if I don't view it Etana love, I will be in tears for the rest of the day and it will pray on my mind. Thank you for that interesting info too sweetie, it doesn't sound as if they are very good at firing their darts, it seems as if so many miss LOL! That is also interesting about Cupid. These things have to stem from something don't they and this make perfect sense? It is lovely having affection from any pet but more so when it is not expected as with snails. I am also a lover of jump[ing spiders and have joined a forum for people who love them. They too respond to people and are curious and friendly. I think as humans, we have so much to learn.

It's perfectly fine Jo, I put it behind a link so people can choose if they want to see, as it's not a pretty picture. The good thing about it is that Darius is doing well now, it makes seeing the picture a lot less painful.
Unfortunately another snail was found with the same early symptoms. He's a close relative of Darius, my last snail of the previous generation. I am taking a lot more photos than I did the first time round, and I am ready to use that sharp needle again. This snail is much older and not as big and strong, so we will see how things go.

I am so pleased that he is doing so well Etana love, dear little chap. No, if I look at anything like that I become very disturbed because I cannot bear to see an animal suffering. The poor other little snail, it looks as if it may run in the family love. Do keep us posted as to how they are both doing and I am so pleased that Darius is happy again. That is down to your skill my darling, well done. Hugs JO xx

Yeah maybe it runs in their family, I don't know. Anyway, Snail #2 was able to eat a lot of half rotted banana today despite his mouth looking odd. Also last night I took many photos of something strange inside his breathing hole, but this morning it just right out came loose and fell out, which I think may be good - especially since he ate so happily after it. I am keeping a very close eye on him because Darius too had the mouth/face issues come and go for a long time before the full prolapse, and I want to be there to help immediately if it happens. I'll update on Darius when I see him awake next time.

Darius had me worried this morning when he was sleeping with a very strange facial expression. I half expect the prolapse to happen again someday, but it didn't happen today. I grabbed him, and he didn't appreciate (it was midday, his beauty sleep time!) but his face returned fully to normal as soon as he woke up.
He is good and tame with me now, he sits still when I pet him if he can see me approaching. He is still a bit more easily startled by fast movement than some of my other snails, but that's probably down to his individual character.
Snail #2 was seen running around the ceiling an hour ago so today I'm not concerned about him either.

Darius is definitely going to have a second prolapse. Well, I know what to do, but I don't know how to stop this from happening again.

Oh bless him Etana love, I think he knows that you are trying to help him. I hope by some miracle the prolapse has not or will not happen, this must be such a stressful time for you. Thanks for the updates hunni and you are both in my prayers. I am glad snail 2 is OK.

Darius had the second prolapse today. The little miracle here is that he obviously did know that I was there to help. He didn't bubble when I grabbed him, and he was quick to come out of his shell and look at me. The biggest thing is that he in fact let me push the gut back in after puncturing, and hold it in with my finger until he knew how to keep it in! If nothing else, that's pretty amazing, as this is a snail who never let me anywhere near his face before I'd treated the first prolapse. I know snails are surprisingly good at learning cause and effect but I'm still so moved.

I think this is wonderful Etana hunni, they love and trust you to make them better and I think he knew you were doing all you could to make him well again. It was as if he was saying, "Oh good, mum is here to help me." It seems to me also that he was helping you to help him and that is a truly magical moment. es they are quick learners Etana sweetie and I think they know much more than we give them credit for. Thanks for the updates hunni, I hope he is going to be alright. I have just said a prayer for you both.

Last night Darius started eating again. He had some tenderness in the mouth and wasn't sure about rasping, so I soaked up some spirulina and he was more than happy to drink it. Then he climbed onto my hand by himself.

Snails are indeed capable of associative learning, which is amazing for animals that don't even have a "true brain".

Oh bless him Etana love, I am so glad he has managed to have something to eat. What a wonderful snaily mummy you are. I so love the photo where he is climbing onto your hand, he is certainly a beauty. I think they are a lot more intelligent than most people give them credit for GTS love and it is wonderful for us to be able to discover and enjoy this. They know when we are trying to help them.
