The local pet shop was closed for a few weeks due to new management. Two weeks down the line I ran out of cuttlefish and was bummed on what to give them for calcium, now I tried banana but they won't touch it, i even mashed it up into a paste and they avoided it.
So I gave them a drop of milk In their water bowl *with water in it to make the milk less rich* I have no idea if milk is bad for them but Snaily Summer loved it, him and spring drank it all!! Not only that but while they were drinking It, it made them.....In the mood!!
Does any one else give them a drop of milk from time to time?
I just want to know if it's safe or not.

Well I think only yesterday I read of someone giving cottage cheese, I've read a few things that have surprised me with food. I honestly don't know, but I'm guessing it's ok in small amounts.
I suppose if they can eat egg shells, raw chicken and beef, ham, then I suppose a bit of milk wouldn't hurt?
I don't want to give any bad advice though. I'm not sure if enough peolpe have tried giving them milk to really know how safe it is for snails, or of there are any long-term effects xx

I'm always really cautious with milk because so many creatures, including some humans, can have trouble digesting it (unless of course they are young mammals drinking their mother's milk). Having said that, a drop in a bowl of water is probably the safest way to trial it. Re cuttlefish, I buy mine online from Haith's www.haiths.com/ and would recommend them.

Thanks Kath, bookmarked the site ;D
Got some cuttlefish today from the petshop, 1£ for a medium sized cuttle.
As for the milk, i always water it down, even with my cat, i give him cravendale mixed with water. Same with the snails, i always water things down xD

Thanks that's a great link I'll definitely be trying them though the pictures on their main page make it look alarmingly like their products may attract Bill Oddies. I'm going to risk it anyway.

I give them porridge with milk. They love it.
Having said that, it's been a while since I gave them some....

Mine only had it once, I just wanted to test it before I gave them more, but since the pet shop is open again they should be fine on the cuttle. Vida: What kind of porridge do you give them? spook: I'm sure they will love it = 3 mine certainly loved it when I tried them on it xD
