Does he live on his own or with friends of the same species? If there's any chance he might have mated, he'll be digging to lay eggs. If not, snails dig lots when they're not happy with their environment. What type is he? What sort of set-up do you have? If he's an African snail, you might need to consider a heat mat for his tank, and make sure that his substrate is always damp enough. If you get these things right, he won't dig much at all and you'll have a much more active snail.

Hmmm, my tiger goes into the soil and hides every day. I have to look for him and take him out so he will eat, and then he goes back into hiding. Didn't find him today, although I know he's in there somewhere. I think the heat, the humidity, the food, the soil and the space are ok but I would welcome suggestions.

My tigers do this every day and the temp is fine and it's nice and humid!, Some days I fish around for them and wake them up and other days they wake themselves up eat a bit then go burrow themselves again, I'm not too worried as they are growing and eating whilst they are awake,I just think they are rather lazy!!

yeh thats what mine did but i got half a coco nut, took the white stuff out (i gave it to budgies) clean it in boiling water to try to get rid of the smell, then put it in the tank.
I made a small hole into it from the soil to the inside. I put my snail in front of it and watched him go in. The next cople of times I saw him digging i put him just outside of the coco nut and he went in.
now its like his house he comes out and slimes around has some thing to eat then goes back in. its fine with me cause now i no were he is all the time.

Glad he's settled. They find their way round their tanks pretty quickly. It's been shown that snails have a memory for their environment ;D

Also I find that certaib snails like certain areas. BigBoo the large adult claimed the hide as his own, two of my almost-Queens like it too, and the others like to burrow either under the water dish or in a corner.
