They're beautiful. I've not kept these (although once I thought I had some, turned out to be another Limax species). BUT I've both read, and seen a programme, explaining that Limax Maiximus breed suspended on slime-threads from fairly high up. Branches are good. They dangle from these slime threads, wrap themselves around each other and swap their sperm. Perhaps they would breed in a tall enclosure given a branch? Apologies if I'm telling you things you already know. Kevin who is a moderator here may be able to tell you more about breeding slugs.....

I would think they would need a very tall tank, breeding them in captivity may not be possible, they may not be able to be kept together at all times either, since they may attack and try to eat each other.

AlienSnail, Kevin and all, thank you for kind words and for advises. Yes, I know that this guys need some special conditions. But I had a little hope for success. As I can understand nobody tried to give them tall vivarium etc, so I need try to :-) There is a lot of publications tells us that L. maximus is very agressive to each other and try to eat all around. Its hards to tell, but they quite passive and peaceful at now. Will see what they'll do.

Does anyone know whether or not feeding them some meat regularly would help to reduce incidents of them eating each other? Perhaps it's worth a try, but perhaps it's already been tried without success....

They will eat rotting vegetation and mushrooms, but I think it may be difficult to stop them being aggressive towards each other, feeding them other slugs may help though?
