Hi everyone. I have raised two baby helix A. I have had them for 2 months now. And im just wondering if they would be able to go to the wild again.. If not then i will gladly keep them. But fi they could then i would let them free. They have been raised in the Lounge in a tank, With soil and food Thanks to anyone that can help. Tom

That's an interesting question.
I know some people do indeed release them, and ethically that's fine as they are part of the British wildlife anyway.
But pondering on this a mopment.....this is, as far as I'm aware, their history.
They were brought over from Continental Europe, I'm not sure when, but I think several 100 years ago, as a food source for the new continental settlers. As these Helix Aspersa were used to a warmer climate many did not survive. Eventually some hardened themselves off to the harsher colder climate and eventually spread throughout the country.
Now for those kept in captivity - I would assume they would be fine as they would be descendents from this hardy stock, but is it possible for them to go 'soft'?
Perhaps you could try keeping them outside in a shelterted corner to see how they cope?
