Eeek! Well I'm glad they didn't eat them! I know not to feed them dry bread, pasta and other things that swell up, but I was completely ignorant of the wafer flakes (oops) Thanks x

Thanks Dusk, that's really sweet of you, but I have the limestone flour on order, plus algea and fish flakes so I feel like I'd be cheating you! Does anyone else use large lettuce leaves as dishes, or hollow out tomatos to put things such as seed mix in the tanks (and mixes such as the above? I used to use bowls but lettuce leaves are more convenient Batavia lettuce has proven popular with almost all of my snails (I usually buy Little Gem) and are large enough to make excellent edible dishes.

I use lettuce as plates too Didn't think of tomatoes - I think I'll try that.

I use little gem never thought of using the leaves as dished. I use a dish but the slimers usually drag the food off it anyway so don't know why I bother. I put the cuttle in a dish to stop if getting too damp and they do the same with that.

Chunks of sweet potato last ages. If I'm away I just throw half a sweet potato in each tank

Yes I agree with that. Baby sweetcorn lasts well too, but not as long as the sweet potato

I put chunks of sweet potato, whole little gem lettuce and courgette as they all last quite well for a weekend. Getting to be an expert on weekend feeds for my slimers as I'm in Scotland every other weekend. A big dish of water is also good and giving them a good spray before you go.

^ Hmmh.. LIlmissvix, have u ever tryied yellow courgette, it's same vagetable, but maybe little bit different tasting ( I never personally never tryied, maybe I some day will). And taste of courgette really depents where it's grown in summer it's best to prefer domestic vegetables, cos they r much better tasting than those what have come to store from nother side of the world. I heard from television, that usually fruits etc are picked up raw so they will in transporting ripen on they way to store, but they don't taste so good than picked up when they have ripe all ready in bushes, trees etc.

I tired fish flakes last night for my big snails, i went for a tropical flakes sort since everything was identical to the goldfish flakes except that tropical flakes had a higher protein content. i think the snails reaction can be summed up thus: *puts the fish flakes in* *Little while later* me: so how were the fish flakes guys? snails: what? fishflakes nope there's none in here look, i think you should try putting more in.....
basically they LOVED them. its such a great idea! wolloping down vast amounts of cucumber and lettuce etc is good but fish flakes with these foods is brilliant since there is so much nutrition in much smaller amounts of food, and protein that i cant see them getting much of normally from the veg/fruit. brilliant idea THANKYOU! i shall try them with the younger ones tonight! (but the babies will have to wait untill im sure they are big enough so they wont disappear in fish flakes!)
