It won't harm them, but they're generally not interested. They prefer Little Gem, and also Batavia, which is larger but works out cheaper over-all and I've found that all of my snails like it. Also with the large leaves they make great dishes for putting other food on, such as mushy fish flakes or mushy algea wafers

You don't need to make now topics for all different foods you wanna know if it's ok for snails. You can ask this is in some food topic next time. I would not recommend to give food market salads for snails. They may contain poisons. In Finland in short period of time has been died dozens of snails in short time for unknow cause and they were most of them really young. All they dead had eat sallad short time before they died. And most of all salad is not really anything else than water, have lack of nutriosion for big growing snails. More darker color at least it little healthier than light colored salad. But as treat and not too often it's ok to give. I think it's better give higher level energy food to snails than low, so they don't need to spend all off they time just eating. I just watched document "The most Extreme" Snails use 70% of their energy daily to produce slime.

Yes I agree with you Crossless. That's sad about the snails dying. Many keepers in the UK choose organically produced salad leaves for their snails to avoid possible poisoning, but many don't... I didn't know that most of their energy goes into the production of slime, that's interesting. Yes - sweet potato is a food I use often for the snails, high in nutrients and energy, quite economical too because as Crossless says they don't need to eat so much before they are satisfied, also algea flakes have a high nutition content and many snails would eat some algea in the wild, so they're a good thing to use too, and that's my main use for lettuce - algea plates

My snails don't like to eat thick slices of sweet potato, but if you slice it with peeler knife or cheese slicer they will love to eat it.

corn on the cob is also cheap and an excellent source of vitamins and hydrates them.

does everyone give organic veg and fruit to their snails then to avoid chemical posining?? or have you found that your snails are ok with just "normal" food?

i prefer organic, but its an extra 50p for a cucumber if its organic in my tescos, so unless its reduced they have normal (its all well washed anyway). organics way to expensive.
