One of my hemiplectas started behaving strangely last week. It spent a couple of days doing absolutely nothing and retracted, which it never does, they're both usually very active snails. Anyway, this one seemed to recover and spent the next week following the other snail around, which i also thought was odd, as they're not generally that bothered about each other. i thought perhaps it was interested in mating, or perhaps it had mated, laid eggs, had a rest, then wanted to mate again. However yesterday it retracted again, and now it's died. I wonder why it's behaviour altered like that?

i remember you showing me them they were BEAUTIFUL. thats really sad. the only thing i know that drastically changes behaviour are parasites (they can even change human behaviour to suit their needs) but i doubt that parasites are the case with your guy, (assuming you've had him a long time). could have just been illness, wanting to be with other snails less likely to get picked off maybe?

hmm maybe. it is a shame, I had a real soft spot for that pair and was hoping one day they would breed. I'll be keeping a very close eye on the remaining one. I don't know how old it was, it could even have been old age. I've had them for a year or so and they were fully grown on arrival. Thanks Muddy and Caroline x
