Hi team - how long do you guys quarenteen your snails from different buyers for? (before putting them in the same tubs)
Is it necessary as the conditions are going to be replicated pretty closely, but not sure if any knd of contaminatin 'could' occur?
cheers

It depends on where they're from.
If they are from the regular members here I don't quarentine them for so long because I trust where they are coming from.
However I suppose I should really, as a precaution.
I like to give snails three weeks or more, or if they are rescues longer.

Yes and I would too use quarantine when snails comes from abroad, not that I wouldn't trust.. It's good to look anyways do they have special needs after some travelling and if they are going to huge group and make sure everyone eats properly. And incase of mites, different types of bacteria and stuff abroad than at home tanks. When I bought my last 3 snails I kept them in different tank to make sure that they get some strength before entering a group they were really small and weak so I let them be week or so on their own first let them eat properly first time of their lives. Next time I get new snails I keep them few days at least in different tube so I can see better if there's some problem with eating easier to notice this way is better I think. If some problems come I leave weak ones longer to see how to cure them.

Hmmh.. I have been thinking. I know one girl that has fulica that has 95% sure salmonella. She got sick it 4 to 5times in few months and now she haven't touch it much and she is healthy. She got right away sick when she got snail from petstore.
I was thinking she wants give maybe new home for her snail and I sayied to her I would be interested to buy when or if someday I get bigger tank and snail is still available when I would have chance to offer home.
I'm not touching much my snails neither. But this thing kept me thinking if I don't get the snail or even I get someday from other place snail that has salmonella or something else bacteria. How to care of it. Would you keep it with others and start to just be more cleaner and disinfect everything after use or time to time. Disinfect surfaces too if soil or snail touches it and wear gloves if you have wounds. What you think? This is just interesting to see how would different people act in same kind of process.
I think if it's possible handle reptiles that has salmonella bacteria, and I never got sick I think this is possible with snails too, but it's kind of rarely situation.

Many animals carry salmonella, some snails, reptiles, birds..... I think sensible hand-washing and wound-covering is advisable with all animals really. I don't think it would be any worse than many animals to be honest.

I think so too. Wonder then if that snail keeper gets sick easily than some others. I have noticed that someones are more sensitive than others. So if I get that snail or some else in future I think clean surfaces really good. Snail tank cleaning it's so time taking that i don't do it at same day than I clean apartment.
