hi all is there something i can use instead of spagnum moss in my snail tank? can i use bark from the garden centre? the moss tends to dry out quite quickly, and the garden centres dont have any in yet,i was thinking of using dry leaves in the tank to add more natural surroundings too,any hints, tips advice will be very appreciated ;D ;D

If the moss is drying out too fast, then it may be that your tank is over-ventilated - moss probably holds water better than any other substrate. Dry leaves make a nice addition to the tank but they won't replace a moisture-holding substrate. You could try coir, that holds water reasonably well.

thanks dusk my tank has a normal fishtank hood on without any extra airholes as there are gaps around the edges as it doesnt fit properly as been a bit bent, could i put a condensation tray on the inside, but how do i know if theres enough ventilation?,i do prefer spagnum moss as its a lot prettier than other stuff, thanks again for your comment

Air always changes too when you do daily food and water changes and spraying. I like to leave tanks lids open while I go to kitchen and grab them something to eat.

I sometimes leave them all open as I feed them, then I sit here and watch them deal with the mysteriously open doors... the albino suts keep trying to reenact the Great Escape the moment I turn my back
