hi all how often does my snails substrate need changing? ive had organic compost in the tank for about 3 weeks have given it a general tidy up,getting rid of old food etc,but it doesnt look like it nedds cleaning and doesnt smell,its had a good rake through as i couldnt find one of my smaller snails took a good ten minutes to find it,got it in the end tho lol,dont really want to change the soil as the replacement compost is a bit cold,thanks all

If it doesn't look or smell like it needs cleaning and it's pest-free, it doesn't need changing yet

thanks dusk just left it anyway didnt see any unwanted critters hanging about so thought it would be ok for a while

Yeah - snails don't like the soil to be changed too often, they need a good balance of bacteria in the soil which is acheived by leaving the soil in there for a while. It is thought that this bacteria is helpful for snails to digest their food.

I usually change soil like after 2months, it never looking "dirty" so i usually change it when it's smelly and when I remember.
