Was giving Austin a rinse and a bit of food tonight and I noticed his left eye stalk and feeler have gone so strange. His eye stalk seems bent, shorter than usual and asif it has a bulge on the end. His eye doesn't seem responsive at all, not to movement touch or anything. And his feeler on the same side seems completely retracted. I'm worried I've done something wrong, the only thing I've done lately is put some wood I'd bought from the reptile shop in his tank, its soft so he wouldn't have fell on it and it's what they had for their snails in the shop. Both eyes were fine when I put that in earlier.
I know that snails get eyestalks problems all the time, and they can even grow back from nothing, but I'm so worried he's only 11 weeks old and he's my only one, so it's fair to say i'm a little over protective.

although as I speak, I just checked on him one last time for the night, and when I looked in, he was sat on his new wood chewing away on a big chunk of apple, so he doesnt seem too bothered by whatever the issue is

I should see how it as over the next few days. Sometimes when they are eating they can have their eyestalks bent in odd positions, it could be that there's nothing wrong with it at all. Sounds like a very much wanted and cared-for little snail

Sometimes they just don't let them out, my snails always have a bulge on their eyestalks and feelers at the end, could you post a picture? As it might make more sense. I'd get him a friend if I were you, they seem to prefer company

I'd love to get him a friend but I'm too concerned about the breeding :/ and I guess I'd want a different type so I could tell them apart a little more easily. He seems muc better now, his eyestalks kinda growth back as such, he's still only got one feeler though, but he seems to have adjusted well

Thanks for updating us, glad that all appear well now.
If you would like to choose a different species there are plenty that will live together well.
Fulica are one of the least fussy to keep, so will generally adjust well to conditions that other species of Giant African Land Snails prefer. Did you have any specific species in mind?
Or you could get another fulica and check regularly for eggs.

I'm put off by the idea of checking for eggs because I'd hate to be messing about the tank so often. What wont breed with a fulica is what I should be asking really I love the look of tigers but I've heard they're tricky to keep? ideally I'd like something albino, I love the white bodies, plus it's an easy way of distinction
