i just picked up a glass tank from gumtree.. its got a lid.. am i right into thinking it needs air holes put in....? \
coz the lid is thin plastic n im sticking a bigish needle threw...

It will need ventilation, but if it doesn't have airholes near the bottom you'll probably do well to waft some air in when you feed them and spray them.

hmmmmm i think this is a point of some debate. I've always done fine with no holes in my tank lids (keeps humidity in) enough air for them will get in, when you remove the lid etc to feed them and it's not air tight anyway. little cold blooded creatures like this use suprisingly little oxygen (although i do have a slight gap around where the thermostat goes in)

hmm i mean this lid is flimsy plastic.. n its got holes in now.. sooif thats the case they should be ok?
