I have a fairly small plastiv viv for my snail, seen as though he's still only growing , and its been fine up until now, and then today after he hadnt moved for a few days I took a close look only to find him hibernating. He woke up with a nice warm bath and he's in a warm cupboard for now, but I have no idea how to heat his tank. All the heat mats I've looked at have said that they cant be used with a plastic tank, and they're all either the same size as his tank or bigger!! Any ideas? bearing in mind I'm also a poor student and cant fork out too much

Hmm. Well to be honest I'd hedge a bet that your heatmat would be ok for the plastic tank. You could always put the heatmat against insulation and then put the tank against it but loosely so that it's not pressed against the mat, and then see how much heat is coming through. If that works then great, and it would also be worth looking around on Freecycle for a glass tank that you may be lucky enough to obtain for free, they do seem to work better with heatmats

I use heat mats with my plastic tanks and they say not to be used with them and i have had no problems at all with them but its a risk I took it and have had no probs but its each to their own.
