Okay, I've sure taken my time getting around to doing this! Here I go.
As you might know, the past summer (2015) I got some wonderful snail mail from Zorst. Three young Archachatina marginata sut/ovum crosses, and four even younger Achatina immaculata immaculata, all in the same box. They were very well packed, with food and calcium still left in the box when they arrived to me. Unfortunately they had to sit in the box for almost a whole week, including over the weekend.
That, and they came out of the box looking like something went really wrong during the journey, something neither of us expected. The brown footed Margie, named Seppo, had the least damage - his shell was a little broken, but he repaired it soon after settling in. The two leucistic guys were not so lucky.
Grey nose.
Iisakki.
It seems that the Achatina immaculatas had attacked them during the journey. It was possibly a combination of stress from being in a small box, and their generally big hunger for meat; they are very fast growing snails and require a lot of protein. This happened despite them having had their protein snacks right before the journey.
Luckily for the snails, there's a good ending - the Margies' scars have healed completely, even Grey nose looks like nothing ever happened, though he sure took a while to get his tail sorted out, poor guy. The still very young Immacs were moved into my fulica tank so the Margies didn't have to see them again. There they made the mistake of trying to eat Halonen, who was several times their size and very moody. That's a story of its own, but they've not bitten anyone since, as far as I know. However, them recently coming of age of sexual maturity brings new problems, and I'm already preparing a tank where they will move as soon as I have a good enough heat mat to use with it.
Anyway, back to the Margies as this is their thread.
The rest of the pics are thumbnails, click for big versions.
The three darlings enjoying some egg and sweet potato out of the tank as I take pics. From top to bottom: Iisakki, Seppo, Grey nose. On top of his hilarious grumpy face, Iisakki has a funny habit of pulling one eye half in randomly. Seppo is extremely shy and easily shocked, with some shell growth problems, but I see he resembles Zorst's Marrow very much. Grey nose is growing so big and soft, it's hard to believe my eyes.
Iisakki is going to challenge Mauno when it comes to who's the most photogenic.
