I wondered if anyone could help please. One of my baby snails was found laying eggs and I am really concerned. I didn't think babies could lay eggs. He is perfectly fine, I placed him in the food bowl and he started munching happily but I wondered if this had happened to anyone else. Hugs Jo xx

Hi, I'm glad the little guy is doing well and eating. Is he fulica, or is he albino Margie, and what size is he? How many eggs came, approximately?
He must have been many months old to be able to lay, but mature snails come in many physical sizes. Usually if there is a huge size difference between partners, the bigger one will do the hard work of pregnancy and egg laying, but sometimes a little one will do it, possibly because there's another little mature snail in the tank, they found each other, fell in snaily love & there was no way to let a big snail carry the eggs. I have some mini fulica who are mature, the big ones are not keen on mating with them but they do make sweet love to each other.

I'd go with what Etana said: it may have looked like a baby, but chances are that is was most likely a runty adult that laid eggs. Because some species are so heavily inbred, it has caused them to reach maturity at unusually small sizes.

What an adorable post! He is a Fulica Etana hunni and about four centimeters and I counted twenty eggs in all. That is so sweet, I thought that maybe what happened; two little ones falling in love but I just keep expecting these little snailies to get bigger and they don't, maybe they aren't meant to especially as they came with the ones I am taking care of for someone so I do not have a full history. Thanks very much for your help too GTS love, as you say, maybe they are mature but they just don't look it. I am learning more about snailies all the time. A lady is coming to collect the snails tomorrow, the ones which aren't mine and have been taking care of and they are going to their proper mum. It will mean that my others will have plenty of room and I can make some hides and other features for them. I will be looking out for more eggs from the "baby" snails in future. Thank you for your kind help ladies.
