My velvet slug eggs have started hatching and I am amazed at how tiny they are, I am using cling film as a tank lid to make sure they do not escape, in the third pic when I tried to take a closer shot it just went out of focus - I wish I had macro!!! Val

They look sooo cute, but I am scared of them....my mom used to say they carry disease....do they? Well if our dogs poo on the patio the slugs are all over it so I would think your Mum is right that wild slugs can and do carry disease, but captive bred slugs are virtually sterile as they have not come into contact with anything at all harmful. Yeah, I've seen the local slugs scoffing down poop too. well, I suppose if they eat the mess we should be thanking them. I just hope they weren't the very same slugs that went on to munch holes in our carrots that we grew last year They are cute. Do your's hide away most of the time? x

Yes they are mostly nocturnal but sometimes they are still out in the morning but not very often.
