I hope, that anyone else is already breeding on them! I would like to tell you a bit about my projekt. Last summer i let mate some pairs of Achatina fulica rodatzii with the poorly original white-jades from Hong Kong. This was succesfull and loads of well growing "mixes" hatched. The looked like normal fulica´s and have grown to a size about 4 to 7cm shell-lenght. In winter those "mixes" mated and since about an months I have loads of eggs from them. In the batches are black bodied and white bodied fulica´s. Now I have a problem. I never have seen very young white Jades. Do the babies of white Jades have this black dots on their shell´s from the time of hatching like normal fulica´s and rodatzii´s have? All of my white-bodied ones don´t have any dot´s, but some of them have already developed thin and light red stripes. Some not. ALL of them are growing extremely slow. The dark-bodied ones are growing like normal fulica´s. They are already double in size then their white siblings. Kind regards, Gabi

That's very interesting, as several people I know have have tried to do he same project, Rodatzi x Jade. Until now I only know of one success at getting these to mate and produce eggs (mine, and I was just lucky, I certainly didn't do anything wonderful for them!). I have some 5 month old babies of a successful beeding of these two snails, it was the Rodatzi parent that laid the eggs. There are two threads discussing this at the moment which you may be interested in. This shows the early results of the breeding / hatchlings supersnails.proboards76.com/index.cgi?board=breeding&action=display&thread=1598This is a discussion on the practiocalities, and the ethics, as eople are divided on whether this is a good idea or not supersnails.proboards76.com/index.cgi?board=breeding&action=display&thread=1888Another thread you may be interested in, about albinoism and genetics... supersnails.proboards76.com/index.cgi?board=breeding&action=display&thread=1596To answer your question - most Fulica seem to have little black dots when young, until the shell gets thicker. The little red lines? It could be that these will develop proper stripes soon. Good luck with these, I really hope you manage to breed full albionic snails. It is disappointing that the ones without stripes are growing more slowly though. xx

Hi! (changed the subject btw. ;D) I met up with Andreas Leiss a few days ago again. It was an very nice afternoon. It´s always a pleasure to have a chat with such an snail-knowledged one. He brought me a nice present. I got an adult albinotic shelled ovum and 2 body-albinotic ovums.....AND some babies and youngsters of this! So I can do another full-albino-projekt. All very intersting. Unfortunately ovums need so long for starting laying eggs. So there will be a long year minimum time of waiting..... Kind regards, Gabi
