out of interest i weighed my snails and here are the results
janet the retic weighs 213g. shes just over a year old now gaz the tiger weighs 70g. im not sure of his age but he is still growing johnny the iredalei only weighs 9g. hes about a year and a half but has always been small munch the fulica weighs 99g. hes over a year and a half but has lost 17g in a couple of months so im starting to worry about him corinthian the fulica weighs 52g. hes always been small but has started growing again. he will be about a year old
does anyone think anything is abnormal about any of these weights? im worried about munch seeing as he has lost weight but he still seems active. jonny is so small, hes only an inch in shell length. janet is a monster compared to the others, she really is my pride and joy but is this big for a retic? i only weighed her a couple months back and she was about 150g so shes put alot on since. im asking for opinions as i dont really know how much my snails should be roughly weighing

Hi, 1 of my reticulata's weighs 238 grams and is almost 1 year (this month). This is normal. They grow quickly and are after the Achatina achatina the largest land snails. Sandra.

Hi,
I thought margies were larger than retis, I am wrong ? The thing is I never had any member of the Archachatina family, so I can't really tell for myself ;o)

It depends. To be honest I'm not sure how large the really large Retics grow. Margies can (but often don't) get absolutely huge. Kab has a Margie Ovum with an 8 inch shell!!!! None of my Margies have yet grown as big as my adult Retics, but they are getting there and will proabably over-take one day. Margies are slower-growing than Retics though. But if you were to take a Retic and a Margie of the same size and place them both on scales the Margie should weigh usually more. Their shells are thicker and their bodies bulkier, they're very solid snails. Reticulatas are light-weights for their size. I'm guessing your Retic is longer than mine? He does sound like a hunky-chunky Retic, or perhaps mine are just small..... Mine (Great and Googly) are both 5 inches in shell length. Great weighs 210g, Googly weighs 145g. My Margie Ovum is just 4.5 inches (but is still growing) but already weighs 230g.
