This is a great project to get involved with, our help (as in the public's help) is required to collect data on the different strains of adult Cepaea (colour varients, morphs etc), in order to see how climate change and changing patterns of predation are causing the Cepaea species to evolve. Cool, me too I'll take a looksee at the youtube link.... Cool, it's reinforcing the information on the website. Hey I learned something new there, how to pronounce cepaea! I never knew whether it should sound like sepaea or kepaea. It's sepaea I've been getting it wrong... lol

Here, Cepaea genus live usually nearby freshwater zones and get absent South of Tejo River. So I live precisely on the place, that is the limit southwest of their natural geographical distribution in Europe. They are much more abundant in the north and in Csb climate areas, on the mountains and start to appear only some kms from here ( like Sintra mountain). Lisbon is one of the freshest places in Portugal in the summer, however is generally dry and too hot for them. I only did saw C. hortensis on one place and however only on the northwest side of Sintra mountain. C. nemoralis is more abundant and tolerate slightly drier conditions. I observed that usually the plain yellow one is found on fields and openings while the stripped ones are found more in forests and lush gardens. There´s also a pink/red variety, that´s found also on clearings and near chalk walls.

This is such a great project, and must get round to submitting my data. I went on a Open Uni field course with one of the organisers and he plugged it all the time! I just love Cepaea and get odd looks when I pick them up off the pavement on the way to work. I have colonies of both C. hortensis and C. nemoralis. ;D
