Hey everyone, I got back on Sunday. Yes I took camera with me and took some photos there. Sotimes I like to walk around and take photos of weird bugs and rare flowers.
Now I have step by step guide ready.
------------------------------------------------------
Water element for snails.
In this step by step guide, I used useless too small container this was about 0.25 litres pump didn't almost fix in, but make sure u have bigger container so it will functions right. I just needed some to container to take pictures with.
Step 1: Gather your equipment on table. 1 "Waterfall" pump + plactic hose to fit pump.
1 thick sponge or two thinner sponges [this become filter for the pump]. 1 Freezer container with matching lid [lid has to have edge to it so water will flow back inside of container safely]. Great size for container is atleast something like 0.4 to 1litre so pump has space to funktion right, bigger is needed if snails are really huge.
2Rubber bands and so kind of tool to make holes with, I used soldering iron. Holes need to be something around 1centimetre, 3,5mm holes are too small so water won't be maybe able to flow freely inside of container.
Remember, if you use soldering iron. Go to outside to make holes for the lid, it get really smelly if you burn plactic inside.
Step 2 Most critical holes:
(1/2) Make first hole middle of containers lid, for plastic hose.
(2/2) Now make a v- shaped cut for power cord (this is easier with using soldering irons sharpe tip). This hole is important 'cos you have to get lid closed very tight.
Step 3 Making more holes : Make holes as much you like on the lid I recommend to put holes all over the lid so if big gang of snails are on element at the same time water will flow off the element watering soil too much instead flow in container. I you are making holes with some other tool than soldering iron what makes little bit smaller holes. Make sure to have some water next to you and place lid on container and pour some water on the lid to see does it flow in side container. If water won't flow you may have to enlarge those holes a little bit.
Step 4: Pump testing. Place pump in side the container down to bottom. Fasten hose to pump, adjust pump to smallest setting possible. Put lid on container so that hose will come out of one of the holes. Pour some water in container so pump will be covered with water. Which pump on. When water is flowing put your fist next to hose to see does it flow back in to container (this will similate snail hanging next to hose ). If pump splashes water too much where water shouldn't be going, in this case further than containers lid is. Then is time to make hose shorter by 1centemetre at the time till splashing around stops. But if water don't flow almost at all try to add more water in container if it don't help you have to adjust pump speed little bit more till to perfect speed. Once you have found good speed it don't need changing untill you choose change pump to different shape of waterfall.
My hose is about 5centimetres measured that part which is outside of container. Do not cut hose to same level as lid is'cos if snail is hanging around and goes on where water should be coming out it block water flow till snail moves away. And everyone will be that time without no water and maybe thirsty.
Snails might climb up plastic hose first times when they get use to water element after that they don't might hose sticking up at all.
Step 5: Finishing. Now you have build water element and adjust water flow till perfect. Now it's time to do few finishing touches. Now take pump out of container. Now place sponge(s) on pump's holes which where water goes in to pump.
Wrap frist rubber band lenghtwise two times around and second one sidewise.
Fasten hose back if you took it off to make sponge wraping easier. Now you can put pump back to container and put it in tank if needed dig soil away for spot that you are thing for put water element on. Fill with water little bit above the v-cut. Close lid and put pump on. Pump is little bit slower first time you put it on 'cos of sponge(s).
Finished water element should look about somethin like in this pic, but in bigger container and with more holes.
Finished. I usually clean my element every 4 to 7days. I lift element to bathroom, clean container if needed. I pour little bit water in container and squeeze sponges under the water untill dirt has gone of them. Daily I pick up droppings away from lid. If you have snails that can't handle high humidity it's usefull to switch pump on only few periods at the time when they are awake. Water element can raise humidity quite high sometimes.
Heres picture what water element looks like.
