Inspired by another thread I think perhaps we could post our snail-shell measurements here. It's been agreed that information on adult shell size of all species would be useful. The information that would be useful to collate (and please feel free to add to it) includes: * Species (including sub-species) of snail * Shell size (hopefully when the shell lip has started to thicken and there is very little subequent growth expected, if not full-grown then at what stage of growth/age the snail is at) * Weight of snail * Any shell abnormalities * Calcium source used and average diet * Tank size and how many tank-mates the snail lives with * Size of parent snails if known * Any other factor that you may feel could influence or stunt the growth of the snail. I expect this to be a long thread and perhaps may be a bit of a chore to pick through, but unless there's a seperate survey for each snail I'm not sure of a better way of collating the information. The more contributions the better.

Ok I will start here and add some of the other information as observation and time allow.
Achatina Reticulata ( normal skinned ) Approximately nine months old - group of six in tank Weight : to be added Shell sizes : range between 12cm ( snallest ) - 13.5 ( largest ) still showing rapid growth. Calcium Source : Limestone flour and chunks Tank : Very Large storage tub - will add measurements soon Parent snail : Unknown Diet for six snails per week : consists of Approximately one very large cucumber , one large rommaine lettuce, handful of dog biscuits, three large sweet potatoes. I think thats all they eat , it may be more. Temperature : i have founf reticulata to be as active at 22c as they are at 25/28c
Hope this helps.

I'll start to answer to this time to time. * Species: Achatina Fulica - Normal * Shell size: 4,5cm * Weight 10grams * Any shell abnormalities : I dropped him, it's that notorious accident of mine when he bounced in sub woofer after I got him out about 5mm to 1cm of shell edge snapped off * Calcium source used and average diet: Cuttle fish. Main diet is based on iguana pellets radish stems, sweet pepper, sweet potato, potato, basil, rose hip (baby food, I'm not able to pick up any from wild might be poisoned) shrimps (soaked in water changed at least 2 times), peas and beans, courgette, leaves of cauliflower, rucola, eggplant then I'm trying to try always when different harvesting season sometimes new as treats so I could make their diet more changeable. In summer snails will be getting about 1/2-1/4 diet wild picked, but this fellow has only got few times food from outside first summer for him. * Tank size and how many tank-mates the snail lives with : About 10litres, he don't have house mates. * Size of parent snails if known : Egg layer that I noticed was about 7,5cm or 8cm other parrent size range can be 7,5 to 10cm normal sized anyways.. * Any other factor that you may feel could influence or stunt the growth of the snail. : This snail is living lonely, with my first babies I had problem that biggest babies was all the time on cuttle and food so nother on needed to wait turn for food and cuttle was very sad about it. Now this one it living long time alone it might affect bevause I'm able move him with others when he is at last 7cm and then he would neither need use energy on mating which my other babies did after coming mature they have layied eggs since they have been able which happened when they where six months old.

UPDATE this is the same snail as in my last post
* Species (including sub-species) of snail Achatina Fulica - normal * Shell size 6 cm * Weight of snail 26 grams * Any shell abnormalities I dropped him, it's that notorious accident of mine when he bounced in sub woofer after I got him out about 5mm to 1cm of shell edge snapped off * Calcium source used and average diet Cuttle fish. Main diet in summer time is based on leaves to minimize fruit flies and some vegetables is given too time to time courgette, potato, carrot and time to time some seasonal special treats like strawberry etc. * Tank size and how many tank-mates the snail lives with 241litres 11tank mates. * Size of parent snails if known Egg layer that I noticed was about 7,5cm or 8cm other parrent size range can be 7,5 to 10,5cm normal sized anyways.. * Any other factor that you may feel could influence or stunt the growth of the snail. Snail lived alone till it turned to 6months age.
Edit// Really weird and "shocking" to notice that baby snail has double it's weight in just 4months. o.O

Oh, nice idea. I don't have a very accurate scale for weighing snails though and I only have a few who are really adults, most are still growing. I'll have to remember this though!
