My tiger snail, Nala, has not eaten or come out of its shell for about 8 days. It is not retracted, it moves when I touch it so I know it's alive. But it won't come out for any food or if I bathe it or hold it, as it used to. The temperature and humidity haven't changed, so that can't be it either. There are no mites that I can see.
What's wrong? What can I do? How can I help it?

Is it possible that your snail is carrying eggs? Sometimes that makes them quite lethargic and snugged into their shell. If that's it, your snail will resume normal activity once they're laid.

No, there are no other tiger snails in with it. Unless it can cross-breed with retis or albopictas. I know it can't with puylaertis. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Self-fertilized? I must have missed that! WoW!
Well I will wait and see what happens... but if you have any further suggestions, I would be grateful, just in case. Thanks.

Also, if your snail has ever been kept with another tiger snail, even some time ago, it may have mated and then stored the genetic material to reproduce at a later date.
I'm not sure what else it could be - you've already ruled out most of the possible causes. Do keep us updated on how it's doing!

I truly hope so. I am worried. It is still heavy, not losing weight yet, so I am keeping my hopes up.

It moves more when I touch it, but still won't come out or eat. The flesh is going yellowy/green in colour and I can see like bubble/froth in a side and it complains if I pick it up. What on earth is going on?

Odd, some pictures would be good if you can do that. Is it definitely alive? It doesn`t stink or anything?

No, it doesn't smell. It makes noise and does move slightly to touch, so it is definately alive. I will see what I can do about photos. (I am in the process of moving and not sure what box the camera is in but will do what I can.)

Cool, in the mean time, just try and keep it safe, warm and humid, with food there for it if it wants. Hopefully it`ll be ok.....

Well, quite amazingly, I picked it up this morning to take a photo with my mobile, I knew it wouldn't be of great quality, but better than nothing, and Nala came out!!!!! It nibbled a bit of lettuce, moved a little and went back in. So it seems as if it is getting better. I was so pleased to see it's little face! It does seem thinner but I guess that is normal after not eating for so long.

Ah that sounds hopeful. I hope Nala recovers well xx
