So this is the place for pics, huh? Okay, once again an early shot of our little guy - soon after he arrived in the post - Next up, a pic of his home - it's a large Pals Pen, though there's a bigger pad for him waiting upstairs for when he grows a bit. Note the crudely attached heat mat (work in progress) -A closer shot of the little guy eating - that's cuttlefish under the lettuce, and a milk carton cap as a water dish until we find something better - And finally, a couple of gratuitous thumb pics - He's a growing lad ;D

POTM on that last one ! I`ve got another little tip for you, I do seem to be firing tips off in all direction at the mo lol When you buy something or other, you often get plastic mouldings with it, like a see through mould that fits over a plug on a new heat mat or something. Those would make good mini water whatsits I recon. They often have a lip to them too don`t they, so that should hold it level with the compost. I often use those things as hides... I recognise that tank, I think that`s the sort I bought for my little sister...

Very nice and that tank will be his home for quite some time i would imagine. I would be tempted to move the heat mat to one end of the tank though but this is up to yourself. He's a good looking little geeza >

Ooh, nice tip (yet again) feebs; shame I've recently binned the molded plastic from the plug of his heat mat I've still got the blister from the hygrometer, if I can scrub the gluey crud from round the edge it'd be perfect - thanks. I've shifted the heat mat to the end as you've suggested serug; it was only a temporary install a couple of days ago and I'm feeling my way along this snail-keeping lark and appreciate all the tips I get Cheers guys

I guess I'm probably being a bit hasty here, running before I can walk and all, but I didn't like the thought of Sampson being a lonely little snail. So following the purchase of a few Albino retic eggs from eBay just over a week ago, we started getting some action last night A bit more progress when checked again this morning, and finally some time after lunch, we have an emergence - Not the best shot in the world, but it was the best I could get from where they are up against the tank wall. [Edit]This one is a bit better - [/edit] Sampson, you've got company! ;D From what I gather they'll be eating their egg shells and generally hiding in the moss and substrate for a bit. I've chucked in a bit of lettuce and some powdered oyster shell nearby as a JIC.

I'm glad I put the lettuce in there now. Barely 1x day old, eggshell still stuck to your fledgling shell, you discover the delights of little gem and start munching - Such cute little chaps, Sampson is keeping his distance so far.

A couple of days in and a things are settling down on the ranch. Sampson seems unperturbed by the new arrivals; he had been keeping his distance but slimed over to investigate yesterday, managing to levitate directly over the top of their 'nest'. He's back roaming the periphery of the tank again, so instead of giving them separate pieces of lettuce I've stuck in a whole leaf that spans from his feeding bowl to above their little depression; we'll see what happens. Here you can just see the 'big' (rofl!) guy disappearing into the hay next to the flowerpot, and two of the mini slimers attacking lettuce at the bottom - "Dad says if we finish our dinner, we can have ice-cream for afters!" ;D
