Got my new snail yesterday, baby Fulcia sp.? He doesn't seem to be eating at all although I wouldnt really know what it looks like when a snail has been eating something. And he seems quite lethargic, he's always in his shell except for when I'm holding him,
Is this normal? thanks x

Have you given him enough heat, that could be the problem

It is quite stressful for them to travel they do tend to sleep for a day or 2 give him another 24 hours if he is still no better let me know.
What food have you given him?

Yeah, He's had a warm bath, I've tried him with apple, carrot, lettuce ad sweet potato just to see what he fancied. The strange thing is, in his tank he just sits in his shell, but as soon as I pick him up he's all the way out and crawling about everywhere.

When did he arrive was it yesterday? I have some that are a bit like that some just seem hapier when they are being handled one of my big rods just sits on the bottom of the tank all day then when i get him out he speeds round my hands. What substrate have you got him on? I had them on snail/reptile coir and they were all fine on this. If he is no better by next week let me know and i will see what i can do. There is another member that had the same problem with 1 of hers but he was fine after 2/3 days.

I don't think that snail would really really like handling I think snails is just trying to get away from hand or searching some moist place food etc.. Baby snails don't eat much so food that has loads of nutrients snails need to eat less. Are sure that snail isn't just sleeping? Baby snails sleep quite lot sometimes and wake up to get something to eat. Most of snails are night active so sometimes they aren't wake during day time much.

he seems fine now, can see shell growth so he must be eating something, although with him being so tiny its difficult to see what he's been eating

My snails don't eat much it's so hot so some of them are having aestavation.. Just have to hope that soon hot weather goes away.. Or then I should think something that would make snails suffer less. :/ Really helpless feeling. I spray all the time cold water, but it's too much work so I'll try on day time just make with pressure sprayer few few minute rains to drop temp.. Have to see how things start to go..
