a friend of mine has given me an idea that could work. as im finding it hard to find a plastic, glass tank to fit the space i have. so ive decied i could make one. ive attached a cr@p drawing. but u get the idea. would have a non fixed flat roof with whole drilled for ventaltion. i would use perspex glue and then sealent to alow the water to stay in. and you think but how can u get perspex cut to perfection.. well im rubbish at cutting. soo a mate of mine told me about this.. www.acrylic-online.co.ukmy quote for all my perspex is Total £ 32.96 that inclused the 8.00 P+P. then all i have to do it put it together. althoim happy with that price im going to have a look on ebay to see if i can get slightly cheaperr. mind i dont need to build it just yet as they are still babies. lol. but im thinking for the future... this could be my problem sold to find a nice sized tank. what do you think? it may get quickly scratched, i believe perspex scratches easily i think the snails rasping on it could quickly make it go misty. Polycarbonate is possibly the best plastic ever but much more expensive. I'm not sure if they still do it, but b&q wickes etc used to be able to cut glass to size and it was relatively cheap, then bathtub sealant to stick it together. think about holding the lid in place how are you doing that, just resting it on the top is risky as it will probably slide off. There's a variety of answers, the easiest is to have a polycarbonate roof which is slightly bigger than the tank so you can screw on some wooden edging so it fits nicely ontop without slipping (that's what i have on one of mine). there's always magnetic catches if you can affix them strongly to it and have someway to affix handles to the lid to remove the lid. just remember to leave space so that the lid can be removed (or you could make the front removeable, it's up to you really depends what you want to do. that's the beauty of building your own good idea though, much nicer to make your own tank. good luck

I'd put some ventalation near the bottom to allow better air circultation, CO2 is heavier than oxygen, and will sink to the bottom. Snails don't need very good circulation but a member on here found that after a while his snails became inactive. It's not proven to be the cause but better safe than sorry eh.
But all in all, a great idea ;D
