Hello! If you're new here, my warmest welcome to the forum!
I'm etana, I'm from Finland. I'm a thirty year old university student, studying maths, physics, and a bit of statistics. I've kept snails as pets since only spring 2014, but I've loved observing all kinds of small creatures since I was a toddler, and I enjoy snailkeeping more and more all the time as it really helps me de-stress from studying. I have both GALS and local wild-caught snails. I love to observe the different behaviours in different species and even individuals, and I'm also fascinated by how to make their habitat as enjoyable and functional as possible.
I currently live with a boyfriend and a roommate, and these snails:
Wild-caughts:
Arianta arbustorum: Rudolf, Adolf, Jyrki, Big Eyes, Twirly Eyes, Identical sept/oct/sometuplets, some without a name, many Mini Rudolfs and other young
Cepaea hortensis/nemoralis: Steve, Frank, Lemon, Cig butt guy (named because he was found in a hole in the ground with water and a cigarette butt in it), some young. I actually have the kind with lip colour mutations so I don't know whether they're nemoralis or hortensis.
GALS:
Achatina achatina: Ewert and Gaius
Achatina balteata: Mauno a.k.a. Dolce Gabbana
Achatina fulica: Halonen a.k.a. Big Fat MILF a.k.a. Hannele, Ihqdaa, Paavo, some babies without names
- rodatzi with brown foot: Taavetti
- rodatzi-ish with silver foot: Tauno (he has jadatzi blood in him)
Plus a few more new species to come during the next few months!
Yeah, I do hope to get better with the actual Latin naming of the GALS, I know what I typed is not entirely right! But I hope you get the idea of who my snails are, and I'm here to learn from the more experienced ones, too.
Please don't hesitate to ask me questions about snail keeping. If I don't know the answer, it means I too have a chance to improve my knowledge!
See you on the forum,
