I have a mixture of snailies in my snaily home, those that are well on their way to being grown up, what I call the teenagers who are medium size and some little tinies. It amazes me how independent these little ones are, just the size of dots and yet mooching around, feeding, sleeping and just generally getting on with their little lives. However, one of my tiniest ones appears to have a damaged shell down the middle. He is still eating and getting about but I have no idea what to do. There is plenty of calcium in there for the snailies to help themselves too but I just wondered if there was anything I could do to help him. I will not handle him unless I really have to. Thanks for listening. Hugs Jo xx

If your calcium source is a cuttlebone, then your snails should hopefully figure out soon that this is a building block for their shells. Wild snails tend to take a little longer to figure it out, but even they eventually get to it after a while.

Yeah, all you can do is offer calcium and hope that he repairs it. With bigger snails you can do casts for badly broken shells, but in many cases they too do okay without. If the baby's active and eats and goes about his snaily business, and you see him at the calcium too, it just might be that he repairs it by himself. Keep us posted.

Thank you my friends. Yes, I am just leaving him alone to live his little life as he is behaving naturally, eating and walking around but I will keep an eye on him and keep you posted. There are always a number of cuttlefish bones in the cage and a pile of fresh calcium very day.]
Thanks for your feed back ladies.

I had one hatch that never had the top of the spiral on his shell, he's still growing and a great little snail. Is never bothered him much, there is no hole into his shell so his body is ok its just the tip missing off his shell.
The main thing is he;s active and healthy and very busy snailing around the tank.

Thanks Zorst hunny, that has made me feel so much better. They can be tough little things can't they? He is actually the tiniest but he is doing very well. I have seen him eat today and he does plenty of roaming around, always to be found on the lid in the morning with the other tinies when we have a feed/clean up and everything else we have to do daily for our smailies. Thanks again for sharing that with me.
