I think I caught a couple of my snails mating this morning. One of them is marked identifiably, and this afternoon he had coconut fiber all over his shell. I'm hoping that means he slimed down the tank wall to bury his eggs. Is that how it works, they lay eggs immediately after mating? Thanks!

They do not lay eggs straight away, but will lay them anywhere from 1-4 weeks depending on the species.

Sometimes pregnant snails dig test burrows so they'll know what to do when it's time to lay. As Jo said, keep us posted!

Thank you all! They are plain helix aspersa. I sure hope to have some spring babies. One or two different ones are buried in the coconut fiber, is it likely or just possible they also are laying eggs? I cleaned the tank today and hope I didn't disturb anyone too much. I also have some tiny other-type snails in there, and one of those accidentally got scooped up in my kitty litter scooper! I put him back Sometimes pregnant snails dig test burrows so they'll know what to do when it's time to lay. As Jo said, keep us posted!
