I hope so too it doesn't seem to be causing any distress, he's still sliming round with gandulf quite happily, but how would I know if it was causing distress? x

It's probably tender, but if it caused him severe pain, there'd be a loss of appetite, activity and social life. I got a badly bitten snail once, he didn't want me touching the wound but it healed surprisingly soon after he got used to his new routines with me. That snail is now my gorgeous Grey Nose, you can't tell at all anymore that he once was bitten. Then again Grey Nose is leucistic (almost fully white, slightly silver at the face and black eye spots) - dark skinned snails might have their old scars showing white. I've seen that in wild caught snails who have had rough times outside.

Jo, you can pretty much not worry about it, your snails are so well pampered that the thought of eating a friend's foot for emergency protein won't cross their minds. If you get starved rescue snails though, or Achatina immaculata, things can possibly be different. Both need lots of TLC, with that they'll behave in the long run. (And sometimes also what happened in my tank - a baby Immaculata bit the biggest snail around, Halonen, and she bit right back. No biting incidents happened ever again.)

Thanks you ladies for your kind words and for putting my mind at rest. Yes, mine do have plenty of food and variety too. I will remember it can be a problem though if I ever take on any rescues, poor little things. I am sure they don't like doing it.

Hi guys, thought I'd give an update on Cecil. She's grown about an inchour of new shell, and seems to be 'evening out' the rest of her shell, and is showing some lovely colours. (She's the one with the pinky end fighting him for a leaf)

As thank glitterbug, they're all wonderfully friendly the scarring is still there but it looks less than it was if that makes sense? X

Yes that makes sense, the scar in Grey nose's foot healed so that the holes were smaller until they'd smoothed out. Quite different to human wound healing! Glad to hear the foot is improving, Cecil is so lucky to have ended up with you.
