Wow...! I forget if I mentioned it here, but the very night that Seppo died, he laid eggs that I later found. Today I found they have hatched! I have three perfect little mini Iisakkis, with white feet, and black eye spots. I will post pics but for now I am busy marveling at this little miracle and figuring out what to feed them to ensure they start growing well. Wow.

As I may or may not have said, the eggs were laid in Mauno's and Maija's tank, where he spent some of his last moments, so the babies are in their foster care now lol. Mauno is very good with any snails who need some gentle looking after, so they'll be great, I'm sure. He did such a great job welcoming my original Margies here, too. Though right now Mauno has tipped over the scallop shell bath and is sleeping under it. If he could talk he'd surely be saying "leave me alone!". But, I think it's us who made him do that and not the babies, as yesterday we did a lot of unusual things right around the tank and he had trouble getting to sleep enough. I tried to post a pic already but my phone wouldn't. I do have to show you though. The biggest one has Iisakki's grumpy face too!

One big and brave baby, two very shy ones The smallest one didn't even show me his little face, he just stuck an eye out enough for me to see that he too had a white foot and black eye spots. When I put him on food I saw his mouth move over it. Attachments:

Oops I keep clicking the Like buttons wrong. The babies are so active and growing so fast! Though last night I was taking a close look at one and dropped him. He got a dent in the tip of his shell. Hopefully it won't be dangerous. He was very hungry afterwards though and loved the spirulina and courgette I introduced to him, and severely damaged snails don't eat like that, so I'm hopeful that he's ok.

Aw yeah i almost felt my heart drop just now as well. I wanted to take out some food when i bumped against one of the baby's. It made a weird sound but after a close look he didn't seem to have anything weird. Maybe it was his shell that ticked against the tank wall (i hope).

Thanks jaynealison! He's very active and eats a lot, looks like he'll be fine. I found a fourth baby! There also were two dead eggs. The fourth guy is also white with black eye spots. So very, very sweet snailies.

good that he is doing fine. If you see what my snail survived with his shell... What do you do with the baby's? Do you keep them all?

Yeah I saw it, sounds like his little shell was quite hard already. I think I'll keep these guys unless I desperately run out of room. They'd be a bit tricky to sell anyway because they (and their parents and grandparents) are Sut/Ovum crosses, quite healthy and all but for example the desired pink shell tip is brown.

I am sure he will be fine love, they are probably tougher than we think. If he is eating it is a great sign that he is OK.

Thanks Jo One little dear was practicing smoothing out his shell's growing edge today, another one was disappointed with the empty bath tub and I had to be very careful to add little enough so he could bathe safely. The biggest one makes the Iisakki style absolutely fantastic grumpy face at me when I'm near. I wonder if he understands my laugh at his grumpiness, poor little baby.

You are welcome love. Bless them, each trying different things including practicing grumpy faces lol! Bathing depths can be a problems when y have little ones, I try and get a good balance so everyone can enjoy the water safely.

A little update - the babies are growing well, the one with the dent acts like it's not there, so I suppose it doesn't bother him. They're still small enough to sleep attached to the fake plant leaves, bless them. One also chooses Maija to be his own babysitter. He climbs on top of her, goes to the front edge of her shell, and waves his eye stalks around. Maija is very good and careful with the babies, just like how Taavetti was with Tauno when Tauno was tiny, exactly the same little gestures and safety measures. Maija is huge btw, she is my second biggest snail now, only narrowly losing to Gaius the Tiger, so considering that she does a very good job avoiding hurting the little ones.
Maija also pushes against Mauno a lot, and pats and caresses him. He on the other hand spends a lot of time staring out of the corner of the tank.
