Thanks for the update love, it must be beautiful to see the babies attach themselve to the grown ups, it is as if they are choosing their new mum. I agree, the little one with the dent is obviously not bothered so that is great news. It must be ovey watching the older ones care for the youngsters, I haven't had that wonderful experience yet.

Click for a big version: Finally a photo from the day that I wrote about, when Iisakki met his baby. Mere seconds later he grabbed the baby (really pulled him off my skin with his foot) and held him down for a while, appearing to discipline the little one. I wonder what he didn't get away with despite being that pretty! Jo, with snails it's very simple care compared to many other animals as the babies are so independent, but the overall carefulness is indeed beautiful. I once did see my genius Tauno rush over to take his babies out of the bath tub, then again he was a special snail in many ways and I really should write that memorial.

That is one of the most gorgeous photos I have ever seen, it is just adorable. Yes, maybe he was being disciplined as most species do that in one form or another. I would love to have seen Tauno do that, naughty little ones going in the swimming pool when it was dangerous and he knew it. Yes indeed, he was a very special snailie.

Thank you Jo More babies could be on the way, as Grey Nose was courting Iisakki last night. It was so sensual - soft kisses on the mouth, back, and even along the eye stalks so carefully! Iisakki did decide at that point that he'd rather eat, but the night was still young then lol.

You are very welcome love. It must have been wonderful watching those snailies having a cuddle last night and I think you may be right more babies on the way. They are very tender and gentle with each other, I have yet to see a snaily fight. Ha ha, food always comes first and I hope Grey Nose wasn't too upset lol!

Sweet baby eating soil (and apparently enjoying it) in between the glass and StepDad-Mom Mauno. They like to dig tunnels under Mauno and Maija and sleep there. They're also already learning to make faces at the empty bath and then slide right in when I add water. Lol, they might get far in human training haha. The biggest baby indeed makes exactly the face of disappointment that Iisakki does. It's absolutely hilarious.

He is adorable Etana love, it must be wonderful finding out what their little personalities are like. I would love to see a baby grumpy face, I bet that is super cute. It is amazing how they all make different faces, just like people. Please keep us updated.

Thanks very much Jo. I will try to get a pic when the baby is grumpy, and post it here. It'd be particularly funny if I could get a grumpy Iisakki into the same pic but snails aren't famous for doing anything on command haha.

The baby with the fantastic grumpy face is still not pictured because he just doesn't get grumpy lately - I guess I should be happy that he's so happy and has no need to make faces! But here's someone else. Meet Lili, the runt of the litter. So often I will see only three babies running around the tank. This little one will be hiding, burrowing, being very shy and afraid just like Seppo used to be, almost never seen on the walls. Tonight I noticed that she is falling behind in growth (not even because the others eat all the food, as there's plenty - she just apparently doesn't surface to eat it) so I made her a dish of Spirulina to give her a boost. She's eating it enthusiastically like a sweet little snail can. I'm sure she'll grow up to be a very good, gentle snail. I will have to focus on getting her to eat more and also generally pampered more, so she doesn't miss out on all the fun. Seppo too was easily startled by harmless things so I don't even think Lili has been bullied, it's just the way she is.

Uhhmm, Lili is snailing around the dish, eating ALL of that Spirulina (I meant to serve more than what a snail of that size is willing to eat), rasping at the bottom so I can hear it. Now I feel like a bad snail mommy. She's seriously been malnourished in a tank full of food. I had been thinking she only gets up to eat when I'm sleeping, didn't want to disturb her, and didn't notice her problems with growth until tonight - everyone else was having a pool party and I got concerned, dug her up, and noticed the striking size difference. So embarrassing, but I'm posting it so others can learn from this too.
She also pooped a black poop, which means that lately she has been feeding on soil and possibly other snails' poops - which, however, is only a concern if that's all she ever eats (it's perfectly healthy for snails to sometimes eat soil and poops). Well, at least the other snails' poops have some calcium in them too, if she never gets to visit the calcium dish in the tank.
I'm sure I'll be posting about her a lot more.

I think she will be fine. The snail i found in my tank by accident was also super little. He was probably a leftover of the others that i did notice and moved out. They were al double his size. I think he also lived from poo, soil and the moss. After placing him in the food dish a couple of times he started going there by itself. Now he grew a lot and is actually gotten bigger in such a small time than some of his hatching friends.

Oh bless her, she is the baby of the family. I clicked on the photo so I could see her better and she is so cute. The snaily who made the grumpy face is obviously happy now as you say and doesn't feel the need to make rude faces at his mum lol!! Thanks for the Lili updates Etana love, she certainly sounds a little character.

Thanks both. I'll see how long I can tell her apart from the others by the size - hopefully she'll catch up quick. She is indeed very cute and sweet. Also she sometimes falls over when something startles her. Poor little creature, I wish I wasn't way too big to even pet her.

I know how you feel hunny, you just want to hold them and cuddle them. I had a dream last night that I had about 100 tiny babies hatching all over the place, I checked this morning and it was just a dream. She will grow quickly enough and then you can sit her on your hand and have chats lol!
