Does anyone use additional lighting for their terrarium / tank? Not for heating purposes but more day/ night cycle?

I have set up some cheap LED lights from Ikea, with timers. They're very pretty, and some of my snails are really fascinated by them too.

Don't they get light from the windows? I just placed mine on a better spot where they get more light. Inside that closet that they were in was a bit dark and i couldn't see the whole tank. That seems fine to me? Unless they are in a room that doesn't get much incoming light, then i would put some not to bright light over it.

Mine need more light love even though they are by a window because the back of the tank is covered with a heat pad and the top is black plastic which I cover with a blanket to keep the heat in. I really must look into getting some lighting for them. Hugs Jo xx

Yeah, my tanks for giant snails have insulation boards and fabrics around them too, so the extra light is kinda needed. My small snails get enough light from the windows as they don't really need insulation.

Ah yeah mine don't need special heating or coverage so the light comes in trough all sides.

I was hoping to be able to get them a nice new tank before I fitted any lighting but I think that is going to be put on hold for a while. They are certainly warm enough as they are by a radiator which is always on but I do think they should have more daylight.

Hiya everyone, i know this is an old post, but I was wondering how the lighting people do use react to the high humidity levels? Im hoping to get some for my snails but i don't want them to short circuit etc with the humidity? X

One solution is to have the lamp outside of the tank if at all possible. If it has to be inside (make sure it doesn't heat up warmer than your own hand could handle for a long time, so it's safe for snails to sit on!) or against a net top or something, there are lamp fixtures that are humidity safe. They cost a bit more, but the regulations for those are very strict as they have to be safe in people's shower rooms, so you can be sure they won't short circuit in a humid tank either.
