I had to go into hospital all of last week and although I knew the my snakes and tarantulas would be OK and my gerbils and cat were already over my fiance's, my "friend" offered to look after my snails... which all sounds good right...
I came home a couple of hours ago and my friend has just left from giving back my snails...I went to go and give them some dinner...and I'm absolutely livid...my poor snails looked like they had been living in a dry desert! No water, moss and substrate was bone dry, snails had buried themselves and had practically sealed themselves in their shells!
I've just finished basically resurrecting their home and gently pursuading Queenie and Jai Jai back out of their shells using plenty of water and cucumber! Have put in a nice new piece of cuttlefish bone as well as some parsnip and carrots for their tea.
I only hope that they're not too worse for wear and will be OK. I dread to think if I had to stay in for longer.

Oh no! Hope you are on the mend, Mweekie. I'm sure your snails already are. They're really resilient creatures and can cope with times of draught/ lack of food. Just keep their needs met and they'll be grand.

Thank goodness snails have the ability to seal in if things get too rough! I hope you and your snails feel better!

Oh sweetie that is dreadful, I would be livid too. Not what you want at any time let alone when you come out of hospital. I know how I felt when I came out last July, hardly able to do anything. I hope you are feeling better love. What has your friend to say for themselves, this is atrocious? I am sure they will be fine hunni with a little TLC. I hope there is someone else you can leave them with if you have to be away again for any reason. Please keep us posted on how they are. Love to you and your snailies.
Hugs JO x
