Natural anti inflammatories that are safe for snails

Im trying to find natural antbitics/anti inflammatories that are safe for snails, if you have any experience with ones id like to hear. also those are considered very good anti inflammatories with humans so i wanted to check if they are safe to try with snails: cinnamon powder ,cinnamon oil,Turmeric powder, Ginger ,Garlic ,Cayenne and Clove

Plants in the onion family can't be used to treat snails. I'll try and get back to this if I can find anything more about the other ones.

In case someone is looking at this, diluted green tea has anti-inflammatory properties and is safe for snails. It can be used to make a little bath for a sore snail, and it's ok if a snail wants to drink it.

I always find these types of topics interesting.

About 2 months ago Anakin the snail got himself trapped in the water fountain where the water comes out the little tubes. As a result he had a chip to his shell infact if you look at his latest pictures you can still see the little dent.

Thankfully it wasnt bad and not a hole more like a slight crush due to pushing up on the tubes

For 2 Weeks I sprayed him with chamomile tea.

My reasons for chamomile was due to the natural healing properties of the Tea and its supposed to be good at warding off infection.

Great for getting rid of mites may I add. I know this because I got some dust mite in the past under the microscope after reading an article on it. 1 lot in a droplet of water and the other in a droplet of the Tea, the mites in the TEA died a lot quicker than the mites in the water.

I am going to try this again in future.

But back to to Anakin...

Now I dont know if it made any difference but his scar looks as if its moving down the shell due to growth.

I guess he wont be permanently scared given he was so young.

But I wreckon if its good for hair and nails, it must have helped to a certain degree.

That is a really interesting post MOA love and I see what you mean about chamomile being good for nails and hair and therefore should be good with little shells. I am sure all his snaily friends will still love him hunni even if he has a slight scar

Yes it looks worse in the picture than what it really is.

I was going to plaster of paris it and nail varnish but tbh he has naturally repaired it albeit it now has a little dent.

It is always better if they do it themselves MOA love as they know how to put things right if they can and it is a natural way. I am sure he won't mind a small dent bless him.

Jo I totally agree with letting things happen naturally.

But I did patch him up a bit as the covering he done himself was very thin and if he banged those same spots again it could end up a worse injury.



Bit of plaster of paris after a good clean and rinse..



Basically I nicked a bottle of black nail varnish from the wife and gave it a good 5 coats. May I add her nail varnish is rubbish.



If I ever need to do this again I wreckon I would have done a neater job...

But for now he is sealed up and zooming about for food.





I also got some fake pkants and a wooden hide but I sent the hideout back as its not cut properly.

Uh-oh, now let's just hope he doesn't try to rasp the nail varnish off, and eat it in the process. Glad he's active though!

Ive actually found nail varnish puts them and other snails off rasping the area, dont blaim them.

But im 100% positive if I didnt cover the plaster of paris he and other little friends would sniff and rasp that.

But if I had a snail that for some reason had a conditional stimuli behaviour in place regarding rasping its own shell I would need to look at another option if you get my madness.

Hes a silly bugger and I was very suprised at his strength pushing up on the pipes to cause such minor damage.

Im just glad he is so young with a good chance of full recovery... An adult snail might have not been so lucky regarding shell recovery. 👍🐌

Oh, right! Hmm. And yes I get it.

Yup young snails regenerate the shells well, then again adult snails have very thick and heavy shells that are not quite so easy to break.  They too are surprisingly good at shell repairs though.

I have the Archachatina marginata snails who are very active in pushing things over and going under them, and when younger they get a lot of little dents doing that (and even at an older age, if they're still growing, the new growth at the edge of the shell is prone to breaking). They truly are strong! Then again their feet are indeed very muscular.

That is very true an adult shell would have probably been to strong.

I have been lucky with mine touchwood in that everyone seems to have a really healthy shell. I inspect them every day, (for which I am sworn at LOL) and everyone seems happy and healthy. The same as with my other pets though, I am on the lookout all the time in case something is wrong. I have noticed too love how we get clever and silly ones, just the same as any other species.
